E3 AS1 System: Luxury Vinyl Tile — Containment 12112021
Description

An installation system for luxury vinyl tile (LVT) for wet rooms containment, for NZBC Alternative Solution E3/AS1 — Internal moisture for finishes to floors: Containment.

Containment being water from accidental overflow from a sanitary fixture that "could damage an adjoining household unit or other property". The affected areas are defined as having a sanitary fixture (e.g. toilet, sink, shower or bath) or sanitary appliance (e.g. washing machine or dishwasher).

  • Concrete Subfloor treated with Protect Crete Densi-Proof X200 or Moisture-Fix X220 at time of pour (optional)
  • RLA Flexi-Seal PUD Waterproof Membrane pre-primed with Roberts Universal Acrylic Primer
  • UZIN PE 280 Water Based Primer
  • Subfloor Preparation Systems Options (site specific as required)
    OPTION A: UZIN NC 160 Levelling Compound
    OPTION B: UZIN NC 182 Rapid Set Low Slump Mortar
    OPTION C: UZIN NC 888 Rapid Patching/Smoothing Compound
  • ADHESIVE OPTION 1: UZIN KE68T 1 Component Hybrid Adhesive

Scope of Use

Must be read in conjunction with E3/AS1 November 4th 2021 Building Code — information is based on adhesive performance only to assist in the Alternative Solutions options for the installer

It is essential the LVT supplier provides their own documentation as to the floor coverings' suitability as required by E3/AS1

Statement of Building Code Compliance

Changes to E3/AS1 internal moisture building code for finishes to floors:

The Functional requirement given in the clause E3.2 is the "building must be constructed to avoid the likelihood of –

  • (a) Fungal growth or the accumulation of contaminants on linings and other building elements; and
  • (b) Free water overflow penetrating to an adjoining household unit; and
  • (c) Damage to building elements being caused by the presence of moisture."

There are two situations that need consideration when choosing flooring finishes.

  • 1. Containment — water from Accidental overflow from a sanitary fixture that "could damage an adjoining household unit or other property."
  • 2. Watersplash — "water can penetrate behind or under floor finishes in situations where watersplash occurs regularly (such as around shower enclosures or the fronts of built-in baths), unless these edges are sealed or coved."
