VL-50CM 50mm Screening Louvre
Description

The Ventüer VL-50CM aluminium louvre system is a 50mm screening louvre that shares the same frame and concealed mullion system as are used by the high performing VL-2SD & VL-3SD products.

While it does not have a high level of rain defence, it does have a low pressure drop and is ideal for plant screens, exhaust louvres and inactive (blanked-off) sections of double and triple bank systems.

Available in a wide range of standard powdercoat colours, the VL-50CM is manufactured to order and can be fabricated in a wide range of sizes. Independently tested and certified to BS/EN:13030.

Key Features
  • Extruded aluminium construction, available in any standard powdercoat colour or anodising
  • No size limitations - the clip-fixed front blade profile provides a continuous appearance
  • Visually identical to the VL-2SD and VL-3SD weather resistant louvre systems
  • Excellent airflow characteristics, allowing maximum ventilation to mechanical equipment
  • Independently tested and certified to BS/EN:13031
  • Cost effective
Scope of Use
  • Designed for use as a screening louvre, as a decorative facade element or as a visual screen around mechanical plant enclosures
  • Excellent airflow characteristics, allowing maximum ventilation to mechanical equipment
  • No size limitations — the clip-fixed front blade profile provides a continuous appearance
  • Constructed from extruded aluminium and suitable for salt-spray zones and other corrosive environments when powdercoated appropriately
  • When viewed externally, the VL-50CM is visually identical to the multistage VL-2SD and VL-3SD louvre systems and can be used in conjunction with these products where areas of the louvres are inactive and have sealed blanking fitted to the rear
Limitations on Use

The VL-50CM should not be used as a weather louvre due to its low resistance to wind driven rain.

Installation Requirements

Installation requirements for the VL-50CM louvre system vary dependent on the site wind loads, louvre panel sizes, cladding type and primary structure detailing. Ventüer provides full shop drawings for all installations which show sequencing, fixing type and sizing, flashing requirements and sealant details. Installers should make themselves fully conversant with these shop drawings prior to installation commencing.

Statement of Building Code Compliance
  • When sized correctly, the VL-50CM louvre system complies with the requirements for natural ventilation of buildings under the New Zealand Building Code clause G4
  • When installed in accordance with Ventüer technical literature, shop drawings and site-specific engineering the VL-50CM louvre system complies with the requirements for structure under the New Zealand Building Code clause B1
  • When installed in accordance with Ventüer technical literature and shop drawings the VL-50CM louvre system complies with the requirements around external moisture as outline in New Zealand Building Code clause E2
In-Service History

The VL-50CM louvre system was developed in New Zealand in 2013. Since that time it has been used extensively on a wide range of projects including apartments, events centres, manufacturing facilities and retail developments throughout New Zealand. Refer to the Ventüer website for detailed case studies.

Other Performance Attributes

Performance tested for weather resistance and airflow performance to BS/EN:13030, the VL-50CM is classified as follows:

  • Aerodynamic Coefficients:
    • Air Inlet: 0.332, Class 2
    • Air Extract: 0.389, Class 2
  • Rainwater Penetration:
    • Class C — up to 1.0m/s suction velocity
    • Class D — up to 3.5m/s suction velocity

Engineered to withstand site-specific structural, seismic and wind loads in accordance with NZS:1170.

Fixings, flashings and sealant details are designed to comply with NZ Building Code Clause E2.

Warranty and Maintenance

Warranty information and maintenance requirements to comply with B2 can be found in the Ventüer Aluminium Ventilation Louvre Operation & Maintenance Manual.

Environmental Information

All Ventüer ventilation louvre systems are fabricated from aluminium which is extruded locally here in New Zealand. The majority of this aluminium is "green aluminium", meaning that the electricity for smelting is supplied from renewable energy sources (such as is the case with Tiwai Point, which relies on hydro-power).

Any waste generated during manufacture is fully recycled, as can be any louvres at the end of their useful life.

All powdercoating of louvre components is carried out by certified applicators and the use of chromate treatment processes is strictly avoided.

Effective use of passive ventilation devices such as louvre systems can significantly reduce the energy consumption of a building, reducing both its carbon footprint and whole of life cost.
