Key Features
  • Sustainable, eco-friendly system with expected lifespan of over 150 years
  • Porotherm walls achieve an A+ European Green Guide rating
  • Porotherm can be used for monolithic and cavity wall construction and provides an airtight yet breathable solution using a fabric first approach
  • A strong, stable, adaptable method of construction that allows flexibility in the choice of external facades and systems
  • No horizontal re-bars except top bond beam, lintels and foundations
  • Porotherm is four times faster to lay than conventional construction methods
  • Mortar waste for Porotherm (being dry fix) is 2%, concrete block up to 40%
  • Porotherm uses 95% less water than concrete block
  • The speed of construction makes it even more economical cutting down labour costs by up to 40% depending on design
  • Much easier to finish floor slabs without obstruction of vertical steel
  • Each block is accurate to within 0.5mm
  • Thermal insulation of 1.7 up to 5.4 depending on the size of the block
  • Clay blocks are available in sizes varying from 500 x 250 x 150 to 500 x 250 x 350
  • Can be finished with Maxit Solar and Maxit Solance paints

Limitations on Use

The spacing of expansion joints is an important aspect of construction, ensure that thermal expansion and contraction does not lead to cracks where water can enter. A feature of construction with CLIMAmur and Porotherm blocks is the lack of mortar in vertical joints. This provides for more capacity to accommodate movement along the wall, with a consequence that walls may be up to 20m long between expansion joints.

CLIMAmur and Porotherm clay blocks are unaffected by water. Watertightness of the exterior walls, to prevent the penetration of water that could cause undue dampness, or accumulation of water in cavities, is provided by the STO plaster system applied to the CLIMAmur blocks.
