Porotherm Clay Blocks

Kiln-dried natural clay blocks and accessories — lintel, bond beam, column blocks. Its natural properties mean that it provides complete, long-term sustainability, not only offering increasingly sophisticated low-carbon product manufacture, but giving a building life of over 150 years with little or no maintenance.

Limitations on Use

The spacing of expansion joints is an important aspect of construction, ensure that thermal expansion and contraction does not lead to cracks where water can enter. A feature of construction with CLIMAmur and Porotherm blocks is the lack of mortar in vertical joints. This provides for more capacity to accommodate movement along the wall, with a consequence that walls may be up to 20m long between expansion joints.

CLIMAmur and Porotherm clay blocks are unaffected by water. Watertightness of the exterior walls, to prevent the penetration of water that could cause undue dampness, or accumulation of water in cavities, is provided by the STO plaster system applied to the CLIMAmur blocks.

CLIMAmur and Porotherm blocks are manufactured from clay and fired at high temperatures in a kiln to form a durable ceramic building product. Weinerberger group is the world’s largest producer of clay (terracotta) construction blocks and veneer facing bricks.
