With aluminium’s unmatched durability and corrosion resistance these handles are suitable for sliding and hinged doors in all environments and come anodised in Silver, Champagne, Black, Light Bronze, Medium Bronze and Dark Bronze finishes (25 micron), or powder coated.
Fixing to the door stiles is where the innovation comes in — a unique, robust clip system means that there are no screw fixings visible on either the interior or exterior sides when the handles are attached to the door stiles.
The design of the Porta range was a collaboration between an industrial design company and APL designers and technicians. Four sleek design options were the outcome — cylindrical shapes, Solo and Solo Offset, a crescent-shaped grip, Duo, and an eye-catching three-finned handle, aptly named Trio. All bring to the architectural and commercial market the clean, minimalist lines that only extruded aluminium can achieve. (New Zealand’s first range of aluminium hardware, Elemental, was launched by APL in 2017, and, as with Porta, is a premium product).
An APL spokesperson said that the Porta range was built on the company’s strong and evolving expertise in carrying through the design-to-development pathway for extruded aluminium hardware. “We bring all the elements together from extrusion design to the extrusion process itself and precision manufacturing of the final product, not to forget in-house anodising which is a very specialised step. Ours is a one-stop shop that leverages APL’s decades long experience in both the aluminium and hardware sectors,” he said.
APL Window Solutions is represented nationally by the nationwide network of Altherm, First and Vantage window manufacturers.
With Porta handles the lock is fixed separately to the door and is activated by a key or interior turn knob. Handles come in a wide range of lengths, including small, 600mm; medium, 900mm; large, 1200mm; XL, 1500mm; XXL 1800mm; XXXL, 2100mm.
