E Tū Wairua Hinengaro – Mason Clinic is a new 60-bed, state-of-the-art forensic mental health facility in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Replacing four outdated units, the development brings services together within a modern environment designed to support patient wellbeing and recovery. More than 5,000 square metres of high performance vinyl flooring was installed throughout circulation spaces, patient bedrooms, whānau rooms, and common areas.

The project architects required flooring to withstand the demands of a high-use forensic mental health facility while helping create spaces that feel welcoming and non-institutional. The flooring needed to be robust enough for intensive use, while also contributing to a calm environment for rehabilitation.

Belgotex New Zealand recommended a range of Gerflor vinyl flooring products that combined visually pleasing designs conducive to mental health recovery with proven performance in healthcare settings. Each flooring selection was carefully considered to suit the function of the space it was used in.

Gerflor vinyl flooring also offered key technical benefits for the facility. The installed vinyl flooring products feature patented Evercare or Protecsol 2 surface treatments that provide exceptional resistance to a wide range of stains and chemicals, simplifying cleaning and upkeep and helping extend the flooring’s lifespan. The flooring products also include built-in antimicrobial protection that helps inhibit the growth of common pathogens, supporting a cleaner and more hygienic healthcare environment.

Gerflor Premium Acoustic – Neopolis Central Park was installed across 2,560 square metres of circulation areas. Its soft tones and contemporary appearance help create a bright, open environment, while its very high-density foam backing enhances acoustic comfort. In selected activity and communal areas, Gerflor Premium Compact – Poesy Slam was used to provide visual contrast and define separate zones. Its darker finish and subtle metallic accents help differentiate these spaces from surrounding circulation areas.

Patient bedrooms were finished with Gerflor Taralay Impression Acoustic – Gentlemen Clear. Featuring a soft, carpet-inspired design, this flooring creates a warm and comforting atmosphere while delivering hygiene, durability, and reduced maintenance requirements. It also helps minimise footfall noise, supporting a quieter and more restful environment.

Gerflor Taralay Impression Acoustic – Rivau Nature was installed in whānau rooms where patients meet with their families. Its soft, natural colour and herringbone timber pattern create a familiar and welcoming setting that encourages connection and a sense of normality.
