WoodSafe-Exterior
Description

Fireshield WoodSafe-Exterior is a factory applied impregnation system to provide a range of timber boards, battens, and plywood sheets to provide fire-rated timber surfaces.

Fully certified for:

  • Type A (exterior cladding, cedar only)
  • Group 1-S use in exterior wet environments and areas with a high constant humidity level over 75%.
  • For internal dry areas consider using WoodSafe-Interior

  • No maintenance required for the fire rating, the fire protection properties of the Fireshield WoodSafe-Exterior system will remain for the service life span of the timber
  • Fireshield WoodSafe-Exterior timber products are certified sustainable by FSC and PEFC
  • Type A: Tested to C/AS2 Appendix C, C7.1 : achieving Type A compliance with C/AS2 NZBC External Fire Spread.
  • Tested to EN13501-1:2010 and achieves Fire Class B-s1-d0. This is recognised as equivalent to Group 1-S under the NZBC Clause 3.4(a) providing compliance with NZBC C/AS1-C/AS7
  • Fireshield WoodSafe-Exterior timbers meet the durability requirements of NZBC B2.3.1 (c), currenlty only cedar can be used for Type A cladding projects.
Scope of Use
  • Fireshield WoodSafe®-Exterior timbers are for exterior and interior environments on walls, ceilings and timber features such as wall and ceiling battens.
  • The only timber Type A cladding treatment availabe in New Zealand.
  • Achieves the highest Group surface rating available in New Zealand, Group 1-S
  • Screw or nail fixings can be used
  • Fireshield WoodSafe-Exterior fire protection system has the ability to resist impact and abrasion
  • Coatings applied to Fireshield WoodSafe® timbers will need to be maintained as per the coating technical specifications
Limitations on Use
  • Can only be coated with Fireshield Signati stains when used as an exterior cladding
  • When used as part of a Type A cladding system, all components must comply with Type A requirements e.g cavity battens, building wrap.
  • Use the appropriate fixing type for the timber species specified by the timber Merchant/Supplier such as stainless steel nail and screw fixings that have excellent anti-corrosive characteristics and can sustain aggressive environmental conditions, for example stainless steel A4/AISI 316.
Statement of Building Code Compliance
  • Type A: Tested to C/AS2 Appendix C, C7.1 : achieving Type A compliance with C/AS2 NZBC External Fire Spread.
  • Group 1-S: Tested to EN13501-1:2010 and achieves Fire Class B-s1-d0. This is recognised as equivalent to Group 1-S under the NZBC Clause 3.4(a) providing compliance with NZBC C/AS1-C/AS7.
  • Fireshield WoodSafe®-Exterior timbers meet the durability requirements of NZBC B2.3.1 (c) for 5 and 15 years

Other Performance Attributes

WoodSafe™-exterior impregnated timbers have been weather tested to ASTM D 2898 Method B, and EN16755:2017 (INT-1, INT-2 and EXT and EXT-LR) for durability of reaction to fire performance and can be used in exterior environments without any protective applied stain or coating to achieve the fire classification.

Warranty

When stored, installed and maintained in accordance with Fireshield documentation, the Fireshield WoodSafe®-Exterior range of timbers are maintenance free for fire protection properties for the lifetime of the timber. The Fireshield treatment process does not decrease the service life of the timber species.

Fireshield WoodSafe-Exterior timbers meet the durability requirements of NZBC B2.3.1 (c) for 5 and 15 years (Cedar must be used for external claddings)
