Keith Park Village is a retirement community located next to Te Kori Scott Point Park in Hobsonville. The state-of-the-art facility includes a commercial kitchen providing meals for the onsite café and village residents.
Once complete Keith Park will consist of roughly 500 units. Ryman Health Care take pride in their catering by consistently innovating their menu choices with fresh seasonal ingredients, serving up 150 different meals each month.
With such a regularly changing menu and a substantial number of residents to cater for, it is imperative to ensure the kitchen facilities can cater to the demand while being adaptable and durable. Fixed services such as drainage systems need to be installed with the full life cycle of the facility in mind as modifications can be challenging, if not impossible.
Allproof’s Modular Channel (MC) Series was selected and installed by MCB Plumbing for Ryman’s Keith Park commercial kitchen. The MC Series is a fully stainless steel channel system available off the shelf in modular components that can be assembled on site. The system is highly adaptable providing the ability to create system layouts that suit individual projects and unique facilities.
The MC Series is available in two widths, 100mm and 200mm clear opening, as well as two depths (100mm and 125mm) and lengths, either 1m or 2m sections. The channels connect to each other, or to a sump, with a bolted union and gasket. Alternatively, a channel with centre outlet can be selected. With three slip resistance tested grate options available catering to different types of traffic, components from the MC Series can easily be selected to design an excellent drainage system for commercial spaces.
Traditionally for commercial kitchens, a customised version of Allproof’s CK Series has been specified, designed and detailed for the exact application, fabricated to order and installed. This system provides a premium solution for each project; however, the construction schedule needs to allow for custom turnaround times as the product is designed and made to order at Allproof’s production facility on the North Shore of Auckland.
Due to a tight construction schedule at Keith Park, the MC Series was selected. MCB Plumbing were able to design and assemble the drainage systems layout using the MC Series off the shelf components.
The 200mm clear opening channel was selected allowing for a high catchment and hydraulic capacity of surface water which improves health and safety if a spill occurs as well as during regular clean down processes.
The 316-grade stainless steel Wedge Wire grate was specified, this provides an R11/P2 slip resistance and a 56% open area for excellent hydraulic performance. The individual openings are narrow, classed as heelproof, meaning that service staff entering the kitchen are not at risk from injury when stepping on the grates.
Over 10 metres of channel terminating at 5x sumps, along with a further 5 individual sumps, were installed at Keith Park Village. Channels were installed around ovens and equipment that may drop grease as well as wash areas and outside chillers. The 304-grade stainless-steel construction of the channels is highly resistant to chemicals and heat. Additionally, it can easily be washed down, maintaining a high level of hygiene.
Outlets include an O-ring to suit either 100mm PVC or HDPE pipe and come complete with a double strainer basket for catchment of solid debris that’s washed into the channel.
Selecting Allproof’s MC Series allowed MCB Plumbing to install a high performing and highly appropriate drainage system for a busy commercial kitchen on a tight construction schedule. The MC Series was supplied off the shelf and installed without delaying the next phase, or other trades, allowing the kitchen to become operational on time.
Rymans now benefit from a system designed, developed and made by in New Zealand by a Toitū bronze enviromark certified business.
