The Benefits of Fully Integrated Plumbing and Passive Fire Systems Testing

26Eboss

Taking an integrated approach to plumbing and passive fire systems provides a greater understanding of how plumbing and passive fire components perform together within a building system, from the finished floor surface through to the drainage and waste system.

With the addition of uPVC DWV pipe systems to the Allproof product range this year, the company can now test its passive fire protection devices as part of an integrated system of New Zealand-designed and manufactured plumbing and passive fire protection products.

Integrated floor waste gully systems

For a Floor Waste Gully (FWG), the system begins at floor level, where a Leak Control Flange, Grate or Channel is selected to suit the specific membrane and floor covering.

The Leak Control Flange and Grate are designed to convey water from the finished floor surface into the drainage system. This may be within a shower area or provide overflow protection where a wet area is located above another household unit.

The Allproof uPVC pipe system is solvent-glued to the floor flange, providing a resilient connection to the Floor Waste Gully installed below floor level. The gully then connects into the drain, waste and vent system within the residential or commercial building.

This creates a continuous plumbing system from the finished floor surface through to the building drainage network, with an incorporated passive fire protection system.

uPVC DWV and passive fire protection

Where plumbing services penetrate fire-rated floors, walls or floor/ceiling assemblies, the passive fire protection system is an important part of maintaining the required fire resistance of the building element.

An internal waste stack using Allproof uPVC pipe provides dimensional stability, chemical resistance and long-term performance. When combined with an appropriate Allproof passive fire protection solution such as a Low-Profile Fire Collar, Drop-in Fire Collar, Cast-in Fire Collar or Fire Wrap, the complete system can be considered as an integrated building-system solution.

Allproof passive fire systems are available for a range of substrates and construction types, including concrete, composite floors, rib and timber infill systems, and plasterboard wall or floor/ceiling systems. Solutions can be retrofitted to existing pipe systems, dropped into prepared core holes or cast into concrete floor slabs during construction.

The integrated Allproof plumbing and passive fire systems are tested to AS 1530.4:2014 at independent accredited fire-testing facilities in New Zealand and Australia.

Designed, manufactured and tested in New Zealand and backed by ongoing research and development

Allproof's ability to manufacture both plumbing and passive fire system components locally provides an opportunity to develop and test complete system solutions rather than considering individual passive fire components in isolation.

Continued research and development, combined with improvements arising from fire-test results, design development and installation experience, are central to Allproof's approach to passive fire protection.

Testing provides an opportunity to refine both product design and installation methods and to develop solutions that respond to the practical requirements of plumbing and passive fire protection within modern buildings.

The company's technical team also supports and trains installers through its national sales network, providing specialist knowledge in passive fire protection and its integration with plumbing and drainage systems.

Supporting New Zealand manufacturing

For designers, specifiers and installers, selecting an Allproof integrated system provides access to locally designed, manufactured and tested plumbing and passive fire protection solutions, supported by a New Zealand-based technical team.

By combining plumbing manufacture, passive fire protection development and system testing, Allproof Industries continues to invest in integrated solutions for New Zealand construction, supported by local manufacturing, testing and technical expertise.
