The team at Asona believe great acoustics should never come at the expense of aesthetics. That’s why they developed Sonawood — a timber acoustic panel and tile option designed to deliver high-performance sound absorption and reduced reverberation with the inviting warmth of real wood.
Expanding on their multi-material offering, Sonawood sits alongside Asona’s acoustic solutions in perforated plasterboard, fabric, glass wool, and polyester, giving designers the flexibility to work across a variety of finishes and performance requirements.
Panels are typically constructed using a range of MDF or plywood cores and finished in a variety of facing options, including natural wood veneers and melamine. Where a custom finish is required, Asona can provide painted, powder coated, or stained options to suit the project’s design intent.
A selection of perforation patterns, timber species, edge profiles, and panel sizes are available, supporting both acoustic performance and architectural expression.
To meet acoustic requirements, Sonawood can be backed with Asona's New Zealand-made Triton acoustic absorbers. Concealed behind the timber surface, these high-performance backers play a crucial role in achieving higher NRC ratings, including up to 0.80 NRC with the Triton 50 acoustic tile.
Asona's experienced specification and technical team work closely with architects, designers, and contractors to provide specification advice, CAD drawings, samples, and support throughout the design and installation process. They also assist with custom patterns and engravings to meet unique project requirements.
Sonawood is ideally suited to a range of interior environments, including performing arts centres, school halls, sports and recreation facilities, boardrooms, meeting rooms, open-plan offices, and auditoriums. Sonawood provides excellent impact resistance and requires minimal maintenance over time. This makes it especially well-suited to demanding public and educational settings.
Proudly manufactured in Auckland, Sonawood is supplied to projects across New Zealand.
