FIREFLYSpan is a passive fire protection product designed to seal linear gaps in fire-rated walls and floors, accommodating significant movement. It is particularly suitable for applications such as control joints, expansion joints, and seismic joints. The product is available in three versions to suit different movement ranges:

• FIREFLYSpan 50: Accommodates movement of 25mm to 50mm
• FIREFLYSpan 75: Accommodates movement of 35mm to 75mm
• FIREFLYSpan 100: Accommodates movement of 51mm to 100mm

Each version is sold in 1-meter lengths and is designed to fit linear gaps up to 100mm wide and of infinite length. The product is composed of a sandwich of graphite intumescent and foam strips, providing both fire resistance and flexibility to accommodate movement. FIREFLYSpan has been tested in accordance with AS1530.4:2014 and assessed in accordance with AS4072.1:2005, offering fire resistance ratings up to -/240/240, depending on the tested system.

As per requirements set out in NZBC C/AS2 Clause 4.4 TBA Firefly fire protection product installation “shall be identical to those of the prototype used in tests to establish their FRR”. TBA Firefly passive fire systems are required to be used in closed, internal spaces, protected from excessive moisture, solvents, oxidising agents, acids and alkalis. They should not be exposed to UV light in service.

Firefly blanket products, Firefly Phoenix, Firefly Plus 60 and Firefly Titan — It is recommended these products are not subjected to the elements, no more than four weeks of UV exposure and not exposed to dampness. Separation or protection must be provided to TBA Firefly Passive Fire Protection Products from heat sources such as fireplaces, heating appliances and chimneys. Part 7 of NZBC Acceptable Solution C/AS1 and C/AS2, and NZBC Verification Method C/VM1 provide methods for separation and protection of combustible materials from heat sources. It is recommended that TBA Firefly products are not subjected to the elements, no more than four weeks of UV exposure and not exposed to dampness.

NZBC C2 – C6: TBA Firefly passive fire protection products are designed to limit the spread of fire between properties from its origin by sealing service penetrations and vulnerabilities in the separating elements of fire cells. TBA Firefly’s product selector gives the Fire Resistance Ratings (FRRs) for TBA Firefly Passive Fire Protection Products that can be achieved to provide the FRRs as determined by NZBC Acceptable Solutions C/AS1, C/AS2 and NZBC Verification Method C/VM2.

NZBC B1: TBA FIREFLYBatt can be used to insulate and protect structural steel in the case of a fire. FRRs have been obtained through testing in accordance with NZBC Appendix C C5.1 for fire stopping. Detailed information on the tested prototypes is available from TBA Firefly’s product database literature to assist with the correct product selection and installation details.

NZBC B2: TBA Firefly Passive Fire Protection Products meet code compliance with the NZBC Clause B2.3.1 (b), 15 years.

NZBC F2.3.1: TBA Firefly Passive Fire Protection Products do not present a health hazard to people.
