Create Functional Entertaining Spaces with Viking's Buzon Pedestals

Indoor Outdoor flow

A sought after feature in countless New Zealand homes and commercial buildings is indoor outdoor flow. If the goal is to remove visual or physical barriers between inside and outside, an outdoor deck area with a surface that is level with an adjacent interior floor is perfect for entertaining, while also adding value to the building.

New Zealand Building Code — No Longer an Obstacle

Achieving compliance for one of these attractive indoor outdoor areas was once a challenge. The current New Zealand Building Code requires a 100mm minimum drop from the interior floor level, to the exterior deck substrate's surface. In the case of an exterior deck above a living space, the waterproofed substrate must also slope away from the building at a minimum of 1.5 degrees (2 degrees if located within Auckland Council boundaries).

This creates a sizeable drop between a building's inside floor level and the outside living space; segmenting the two areas and spoiling the indoor outdoor flow. Viking's Buzon pedestal system offers a solution that removes this drop-down, while still promoting watershed and complying with the code, seeing pedestals (also called 'support chairs') are deemed as an 'Acceptable Solution' in E2/AS1.

Buzon — Not Just Height, but Slope Correction Too

Viking's Buzon pedestals not only suspend a floating deck's surface (either timber planks, pavers or tiles) to the same height as the interior floor level while allowing rain to drain through to the substrate, but their ingenious cam system provides slope correction up to five percent (2.9 degrees). This allows the deck surface to remain at zero degrees while the substrate slopes away, enhancing watershed from the building to the drainage outlets.

European Quality

Established in Belgium as far back as 1984, Viking's Buzon pedestals continue to be manufactured to precise European standards using the highest quality polypropylene and allowing each individual pedestal to handle a point-load of over 1000kg.

Where a stunning, yet practical outdoor entertainment space is required for family or clients, the practicality and durability of Viking's Buzon pedestal system is ideal.
