When Acoustics Meet Wet Areas, Think in Systems

Good acoustic design and good wet-area design don’t always pull in the same direction.

Materials and build-ups that help isolate or absorb sound can introduce challenges when moisture, waterproofing, falls and tiled finishes enter the equation. In bathrooms, simply extending a standard acoustic floor build-up isn’t always the answer.

That’s why SoundDown has developed a systems-based approach.

Rather than treating wet areas as an interruption to the acoustic floor, SoundDown Endurabase is designed specifically to integrate wet areas into the wider flooring system. The custom-built Endurabase pre-formed shower tray or wet floor fully integrates into the SoundDown flooring systems, meaning acoustic performance can be considered across the floor plate, while providing a purpose-designed base for areas requiring waterproofing.

For architects and specifiers, that means fewer compromises at the transition between dry and wet spaces. Endurabase integrates seamlessly with adjoining SoundDown floors and can be customised in length, width and height to suit the specific floor build-up. It allows level-entry from living to wet areas, keeping finished floor seamless and supporting project-specific detailing.

It is also compatible with heated flooring systems, giving designers greater flexibility where bathrooms or other tiled areas require underfloor heating.

The result is a more coordinated approach: acoustic performance, wet-area requirements and floor build-ups considered and installed together, rather than solved independently.

Because when a project requires both acoustic performance and reliable wet-area detailing, the strongest solution isn’t another isolated product. It’s a floor system designed to make every part work together.
