Build Anatomy Brings Magnedure to New Zealand

Build Anatomy has brought a new high-performance flooring product to the New Zealand market, with Magnedure now available as an alternative to traditional timber and cementitious-based flooring substrates.

Magnedure is a 19mm magnesium oxide (MgO) flooring board, made using magnesium sulphate cement, reinforced with glass-fibre mesh and containing NO crystalline silica or formaldehyde. The board is incredibly strong and stable, and deals particularly well with some of the things that can cause headaches on a construction project — moisture, fire, movement, chemicals and sound.

For Build Anatomy, the company behind SoundDown acoustic flooring systems, that’s a big part of the appeal.

“We’re always looking at where the problems are in a flooring system and whether there’s a better way of doing things. Magnedure gives us a really solid substrate that can bring several different performance benefits into the same floor.”

Its mineral composition means Magnedure is non-combustible and won’t swell or deteriorate in the same way many timber-based products can when exposed to moisture. Being free from crystalline silica and formaldehyde means there’s no health risk to installers and better long-term air quality for occupants. It’s also dense and rigid, which can be a real advantage when acoustic performance and a solid feel underfoot matter.

Magnedure is a great solution for a wide range of applications — from houses and apartments through to commercial buildings, wet areas and mass-timber acoustic floors.

Just as importantly, it’s practical. Builders can cut and install Magnedure using familiar tools and methods, so it doesn’t require a completely different approach on site.

With local stock, technical support and system knowledge provided by Build Anatomy, Magnedure gives the New Zealand construction industry another option for projects where the floor needs to work a bit harder.
