Kingspan Insulated Panels for State-of-the-Art Facilities at The Remarkables

The two phase project increases the capacity of the existing facility by 40% — enabling the ski field to accommodate 3,500 skiers per day. The upgrade includes a new architecturally significant 5,800m² three level base building that houses guest services, retail tenancies, gear rental, a snow sport school and an extensive café and restaurant.

Situated 1,600m above sea level at the end of a winding (mostly unsealed) mountain road, the project complexities and environmental challenges meant correct product selection was critical. Almost 3,400m² of Kingspan KS1000RW Trapezoidal Roof and Wall panels in Colorbond Monument were used on both the roof and walls, while KS1000AWP Architectural Wall Panels in Colorbond Monument provided a design point of difference on the chimneys and feature fins.

Kingspan Insulated Panels are a one stop solution for meeting building thermal regulations and come in a range of sizes, finish colours and core thicknesses to meet most design and performance requirements. Delivering an R value of R5.35, Kingspan 100mm (core thickness) provided the level of thermal and structural performance required in this extreme environment and also enabled programme efficiencies that helped ensure the success of the build.

Kerry Archer from Archer Construction, the project's roofing and cladding contractor explains: "Kingspan goes up fast; the large 12m x 1m panels are pre-finished inside and out and use a straightforward fixing system that makes installation so much quicker than a conventional built up roof."

"In addition, the 100mm panel is incredibly strong and provided a solid working platform that we could walk on (and work on) with confidence," Kerry adds. "All in all we probably shaved about eight weeks off the build time, giving us the ability to get the building closed in early — a significant advantage as some days there was up to 1.5m of snow on site."

Kerry and his team also appreciated the comprehensive technical and advisory support provided by Kingspan, "I'd used Kingspan before so was very comfortable with it; specialist technical advice was always on hand and the detailed drawings provided were excellent. It's a great system."

Kingspan panels are manufactured to ISO 9001 standards from the highest quality materials, using state-of-the art production equipment to rigorous quality control standards, ensuring long term reliability and service life.

The Remarkable's project is covered by Kingspan's Total Panel Guarantee of up to 15 years — thermal and structural performance.
