DriStud building products achieves 5 Codemark cert

TCL Hunt, a 100% New Zealand owned company whose origin dates back to 1937, has now introduced DriStud building products to the NZ market, with five CodeMark certificates over seven products.

The products that are specifically engineered for the NZ environment and weather conditions include wall wrap, window flashing tapes, synthetic roofing underlays, foil insulation and plastic damp proof course. The products are manufactured using only top quality raw materials to ensure they perform as a quality weatherproof building envelope, and are used as part of the building's water management system in the wall and roof cladding system, to assist the control of moisture.

TCL Hunt has been a leader in the sourcing and supply of high quality technical materials and equipment for many different industries, including the building sector.

"In fact, we were one of the first companies to introduce synthetic building wraps to the NZ market," says TCL Hunt Managing Director Tim Fraser. "At that time we opted to distribute these products through a well-known building supply company under their own brand, but now we are supplying directly to the roofers and building merchants."

One of the DriStud products TCL Hunt is proud to introduce to the market is DriStud Cool Window Flashing Tape. TCL Hunt has worked closely with building certification bodies and consultants to ensure clear information is stated in the product scope, conditions and limitations on the certificate, such as a service temperature range of -25°C to 80°C and application temperatures of as low as -6°C.

CodeMark is the ultimate in product assurance, as building products with CodeMark must be accepted as code-compliant as long as they are used as specified. CodeMark certification is a compliance pathway and it must be accepted by BCA if all conditions are met. Investment in CodeMark and other tools such as Masterspec should help architects, councils and builders to specify, consent and use DriStud products with better technical information and greater certainty.

DriStud Cool Window Flashing Tape

DriStud Cool Window Flashing Tape is a window sealing system that can also be used for general sealing of wall penetrations.

DriStud Cool Window Flashing Tape is intended for use in new and existing buildings in conjunction with an underlay or rigid air barrier.
It is used around framed joinery openings and penetrations, providing a secondary weather resistant barrier.
It is designed to be used in conjunction with air seals and joinery flashing systems, but not as a substitute.
DriStud Cool Window Flashing Tape may also be used at joinery heads to seal flashing upstands to the building wrap.
Where a rigid underlay has been installed, DriStud Cool Window Flashing Tape may be used to seal all junctions and penetrations.
It is suitable for use with timber and steel framed buildings as well as masonry structures.
It may be used where the environmental temperature fluctuates between -25ºC and 80ºC.
Must be installed in accordance with the DriStud Cool Window Flashing Tape Installation Manual Rev 1, July 2015.
The scope of the CodeMark certificate covers the use of DriStud Cool Window Flashing Tape in buildings:
- up to 10m in height, and
- with a risk score less than 20, when evaluated against the E2/AS1 risk matrix, and
- in wind zones up to extra high as defined in NZS 3604:2011, and
- in all corrosion zones as defined in NZS3604:2011.

DriStud FRU36 is a white synthetic tri-laminate roofing underlay that is water resistant, vapour permeable and fire retardant.

DriStud FRU36 is intended for use on buildings designed in accordance with NZS 3604:2011 paragraph 1.1 and in wind zones up to and including ‘Extra High’.
DriStud FRU36 is designed to be used as a replacement for standard kraft paper roof underlay.
It can be installed over both timber and steel framing to ensure a dry roof cavity.
DriStud FRU36 can be used under: masonry tiles, metal tiles, profiled metal roof claddings. However, DriStud FRU36 must be fully supported with a corrosion resistant material where roof pitch is less than 10 degree.

Where CodeMark is to be relied upon, then all conditions of that certificate must be met. These are:

Must be installed in accordance with the DriStud FRU 36 Installation Guide Rev 1.
DriStud FRU36 may be installed over timber and steel roof framing.
The certificate covers the use of DriStud FRU 36 under: masonry tiles, terracotta tiles, metal tiles, profiled metal claddings, slate and composite panels.
DriStud FRU36 can span upto 1200mm.

When specified and installed in accordance with the requirements of the Installation Guide, DriStud FRU 36 roofing underlay will comply with the following provisions of the NZ Building Code:

Clause B1 Structure: B1.3.1, B1.3.2, B1.3.3 (a, h)
Clause B2 Durability: B2.3.1(a), B2.3.2(b) (15 years)
Clause C Protection from Fire: C3.4(c)

DriStud FRU38 can span up to 1200mm between adjacent supports. Where the span exceeds 1200mm a corrosion resistant mesh or alternative i.e. plastic strapping must be used.

When specified and installed in accordance with the requirements of the Installation Guide, DriStud FRU 36 roofing underlay will comply with the following provisions of the NZ Building Code:

Clause B1 Structure: B1.3.1, B1.3.2, B1.3.3 (a, h)
Clause B2 Durability: B2.3.1(a), B2.3.2(b) (15 years)
Clause C Protection from Fire: C3.4(c)

DriStud Wall Wrap is engineered from resilient non-woven fabric and is a commercial grade building wrap.

DriStud Wall Wrap is intended for use on buildings designed in accordance with NZS 3604:2011 paragraph 1.1 and in Wind Zones up to and including ‘Very High’.
It may be installed over timber and steel framing.
Where DriStud Wall Wrap is to be installed over steel framing it is important to ensure an adequate thermal break has been installed.
DriStud Wall Wrap may also be used in conjunction with the following substrates:

Oriented strand board
Concrete
Fibre cement
Plywood

DriStud Wall Wrap may be used where the external cladding is direct fixed or over a nominal 18mm ventilated cavity as per table 3, E2/AS1.
The scope of the CodeMark certificate covers the use of DriStud Wall Wrap in buildings:

up to 10m in height, and
with a risk score less than 20, when evaluated against the E2/AS1 risk matrix, and
up to and including very high wind zone as defined i in NZS 3604:2011, and
in all corrosion zones as defined in NZS3604:2011.

The scope of the certificate covers the use of DriStud Wall Wrap with DriStud Cool Window Flashing Tape, DriStud Bozz Window Flashing Tape and rigid air barriers made from plywood, OSB or fibre cement.
