Asona Pool Panels Shine in QEII

The ceilings in this stunning project were designed by Warren and Mahoney architects and feature Asona’s Triton 50 Pool Panels (large module) to control the reverberation and noise from the three swimming pools housed under an extensive ceiling space. Triton 50 Pool Panels were also used to cover one end wall and above the window line to add additional acoustic control to this environment.

The site is known as Queen Elizabeth II Park (QEII) and was home to the QEII sport and recreation facility that closed in 2010 due to significant earthquake damage and was later demolished. Burwood-Pegasus councillor David East said the centre would ensure QEII Park would be "Buzzing with activity again — just like it was pre-quake, and as a community hub it will return a much-needed focal point to northeast Christchurch."

Asona Triton Pool Panel is a proprietary high-sound absorbing acoustical panel designed specifically for swimming pool ceilings and moisture-laden environments. The Triton Pool Panel has a 50mm acoustic core and is foil backed with a concealed aluminium frame to prevent condensation and corrosion. The panels are faced and edge wrapped with Sonatex, a white glass matt composite finish which in turn has been treated with a water repellent coating.

The 50mm thick glass fibre core absorber provides very high sound absorption to NRC 1.00, ISO 11654, αW 1.0. The panels are dimensionally stable in high humidity — perfect for this large scale project where the balance of controlling sound reverberation and the use of moisture-repelling materials is of equal importance.
