Viking Roofspec Utilises Marine Technology to Waterproof Decks

Sometimes the greatest innovations are designed for one purpose and end up being used for another. The technology of Viking Dec-K-ing (PVC) Waterproofing Membrane was originally created for the development of robust deck surfaces for pleasure craft boats – to deal with abrasion from fishing rods, petrol tanks and anchors etc.

The success of this material found its way to the construction sector, where it's not only keeping water out of buildings, but providing aesthetic, textured deck surfaces for families to live on.

Polyester reinforcing mesh scrim in the sheet gives the membrane both extra puncture resistance and latitudinal strength. The grippy textured surface provides assurance underfoot whilst forgiving the abuse that comes with the moving of BBQs, deck furniture and pot plants.

A key advantage of the Viking Dec-K-ing system is its simplicity. Building owners have been drawn to the fact that a finished, watertight, aesthetic deck need not be a hybrid of waterproofing membranes with floating timber or tile deck arrangements on top. The Viking Dec-K-ing system achieves everything in one system and its seams are heat-welded at 460° celsius to achieve complete impermeability.

Dec-K-ing is suitable for commercial applications such as surf clubs, schools and other institutions requiring an attractive, hard-wearing waterproofing system with maximum underfoot grip on areas such as ramps and walkways.

In line with the latest trends, the Dec-K-ing range comprises earthy tones which complement the surroundings; the latest colour, 'Sand Pebble', emulates an aggregate concrete look.
