Laminex Solid Surface Earns Declare's Prestigious 'Red List Free' Label

Following its market-leading position as the first company in Australasia to have a product (Strandboard) listed as 'Red List Free' in the Declare database, Laminex New Zealand is proud to announce that Laminex Solid Surface, its 100% acrylic product, is the second product in its portfolio to join this prestigious list.

Described by the International Living Institute as a 'nutrition-label' for products, the Declare label provides a clear and informative method of disclosing ingredients. Declare is transforming the building materials marketplace through transparency and open communication. A platform of the Living Building Challenge, the Declare label is now also recognised by the New Zealand Green Building Green Star tool.

Laminex Solid Surface joins Strandboard with the highest possible Declare label — 'Red List Free'. The 'Red List Free' label means that the product is completely free of Red List materials which builders cannot use if construction is to meet the criteria of the Living Building Challenge. The Living Building Challenge's list of red list materials and chemicals includes ingredients such as asbestos, formaldehyde (added), and wood treatments such as creosote, arsenic or pentachlorophenol.

Laminex Solid Surface is a 100% acrylic surface that can be thermoformed to create curved surfaces with seamless joins. Being non-porous, Laminex Solid Surface has superior stain and bacteria resistance. Its seamless joins mean the surface is easy to clean and very hygienic, making it ideal for applications where hygiene is critical, such as in hospitality and healthcare. Colour and pattern is consistent through the entire thickness of Laminex Solid Surface, so damage can be repaired and surfaces can be re-polished to original condition, even after many years. Features such as drainer grooves and sink bowls can be easily incorporated, without effecting warranty or performance to create a sleek look.

"Laminex Solid Surface is very versatile, making it perfect for commercial environments and residential use," says Teresa Walsh, Marketing Development Manager at Laminex New Zealand. "With its thermoforming and seamless characteristics, the design possibilities are almost limitless."

There are 20 colours in the range, including whites, neutrals, bright solids and translucents. The translucent surfaces can be back-lit, creating a unique and dramatic effect.

"We're very proud that Laminex Solid Surface now joins Strandboard on the Declare database as 'Red List Free'. Laminex New Zealand has put sustainability at the top of our business agenda, and we've created our GREENfirst initiative to drive an innovative culture when it comes to matters of sustainability," says Walsh.

Laminex New Zealand supports Laminex Solid Surface with comprehensive technical support for both fabricators and designers anywhere in New Zealand. This includes upfront training and documentation for all fabricators, and proper support when customers have technical queries in the field. And it's all backed up by a meaningful 10 year limited warranty.
