Formica
Description

Formica High Pressure Laminate is a stylish, durable and easy to clean post forming grade of decorative laminate. Now with antimicrobial properties on selected colours, Formica laminate inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungus.  

In addition, it has enhanced postformability having the capability to typically bend to an 8mm internal radius for solid colours and 4.5mm internal radius for stones, abstract patterns and woodgrains.

Scope of Use

The product is suitable for most interior horizontal or vertical surfaces, including:

  • Door and drawer fronts
Limitations on Use

Formica Metallic and Magnetic laminates are suitable for vertical use only. Do not use externally or in areas where prolonged exposure to temperatures exceeding 135° may occur. Must be supported by recommended substrate over entire surface area. Do not bond directly to plaster, concrete walls or gypsum plasterboard.

Statement of Building Code Compliance
  • Clause B2 DurabilityPerformance B2.3.1 (c). Will remain fit for purpose for a minimum of 5 years. 
  • Clause C3 Fire Affecting Areas Beyond the Fire Source: Performance C3.4 (a). Has a Material Group Number of 3 when tested to ISO 5660.
  • Clause E3 Internal Moisture: Performance E3.3.4 & E3.3.5. Surfaces are imperious and easily cleaned.
  • Clause F2 Hazardous Building MaterialsPerformance F2.3.1. No harmful materials are emitted from product.
  • Clause G3 Food Preparation and Prevention of Contamination: Performance G 3.3.2 (a). Surfaces are impervious and easily cleaned.
In-Service History

The Formica brand celebrated its 100 year anniversary in 2013 and has been available in New Zealand since 1946. It has a proven history with a large number of residential bench-tops and commercial countertops featuring Formica laminate.
