A Bold Statement at MML with Melteca

When Mortlock McCormack Lawyers (MML) sought to renovate their practice, they were looking for a fresh, new feel for both their staff and clients. Key for the team was selecting products that not only provided a fresh, professional aesthetic, but were durable and easy to maintain. New Zealand made Melteca laminated panels were perfect for the office furniture and shelving due to their easy clean, stain and abrasion resistant nature. Made from FSC sourced product and at ISO certified plants, the use of Melteca offered peace of mind as well as a stylish interior. The breadth of the Melteca colour range allowed for architect Marcus Stufkens of Stufkens + Chambers Architects to express the personality of the MML team, who described themselves as "an established practice with a young attitude".

By using Melteca panels in Memphis Red and Spring Maple, Stufkens designed formal and informal meeting rooms and breakout spaces by creating a honeycomb effect that offered both privacy and connectedness. The existing office had a number of physical constraints to be worked out including an L shaped plan and structural columns which could not be moved. The use of different materials, with different colours, textures and light gave a unique office space, reflecting the firm's interest in the arts.

Mirrored in the choice of a white feature wall in the reception area, the timber and carpet accents are used to connect the various spaces of the office, echoing the sense of dynamism in the team through the use of different materials with varying light, colour, pattern and texture.

Caesarstone Snow and Formica Snowdrift were used in the staff kitchen area, the pale colours creating an element of calm away from the demanding practice of law. Made from up to 93% quartz, Caesarstone surfaces are hygienic and never require sealing. Add to this the fact that Formica laminates are now available with added antimicrobial properties and you have a shared kitchen space that easily meets the 'easy to maintain' brief of the team at MML.

Through the choice of materials, Stufkens not only met the brief of a professional and easy to clean office space, but also reflected the unique personality of the MML practice, their ability to see and do things differently in an inspiring and creative space.
