In times of crisis, the best solutions are often the result of creative and lateral thinking. Where traditionally held views are challenged and outcomes exceed expectations.

Such is the opportunity presented by the current Housing Crisis where the deficit in Auckland alone exceeds 44,000 homes.

Taking a “customer first” view is at the heart of the design process undertaken by Resolution Design Architectural. Director Sunil Bakshi says, “Resolution Design specialise in multi-unit development and challenge the model of conventional building solutions, without compromising usability, comfort and safety to deliver a new model of affordable housing.”

With an innovation mindset and focus on safety, the team at Resolution Design have again partnered with Clarke Group to help address the accommodation shortage in Auckland.

Sunil is firmly of the opinion that while the role of product manufacturer is to supply material that is Building Code compliant, it is the role (and expertise) of the designer to provide the back-end system supporting that choice, “It’s about considering all the variables and working with the Building Code” says Sunil.

With a background in teaching architecture at Victoria University and having worked within Auckland Council as a specialist building consultant, Sunil started Resolution Design Architectural in 2014 and has found his company’s unique and comprehensive knowledge of current building code requirements, council processes and legislation are in demand by clients undertaking projects in the medium to high density residential and commercial space.

Revolution Design have developed a proprietary design system for use in the highest risk situations that enables their experienced team to draw from a trusted material palette that includes Palliside uPVC weatherboards. Situated in NZS 3604 Wind Zones up to, and including Very High.

The PALLISIDE® Weatherboards Direct Fix must only be installed horizontally on vertical surfaces.

The PALLISIDE® Weatherboards Direct Fix are appraised for use with aluminium window and door joinery that is installed with vertical jambs and horizontal heads and sills. (The Appraisal of the PALLISIDE® Weatherboard system relies on the joinery meeting the requirements of NZS 4211 for the relevant Wind Zone.)

In the opinion of BRANZ, the Palliside Cellular uPVC Weatherboard Direct Fix or Drained Cavity Cladding Systems, if designed, used, installed and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of Appraisal No.490 and No.491 (2015), will meet the following provisions of the NZBC:

Clause B1 Structure: Performance B1.3.1, B1.3.2 and B1.3.4. The PALLISIDE® Cellular uPVC Weatherboard Cladding System meets the requirement for loads arising from self-weight, earthquake, wind, impact and creep [i.e. B1.3.3 (a), (f), (h), (j) and (q)].
Clause B2 Durability: Performance B2.3.1(b), 15 years.
Clause E2 External Moisture: Performance E2.3.2.
Clause F2 Hazardous Building Materials: Performance F2.3.1. The PALLISIDE® Cladding system will not present a health hazard to people.
