H1-Compliant Insulation for a Healthy Home

In 2020 the NZ government updated the thermal performance requirements for insulation.

The new standards, called H1 Energy Efficiency Acceptable Solution H1/AS1 apply to new homes and buildings up to 300m². Requirements for buildings over 300m² have been combined into the new Acceptable Solution H1/AS2.

The new standards are designed to make our buildings warmer, drier and up to 40% more energy efficient.

As Aotearoa NZ heads into our colder season, it's a great time to consider compliance and comfort.

Before a product or service is approved by Sensitive Choice, it is reviewed by an expert panel who considers whether it is suitable to carry the Sensitive Choice Blue Butterfly on collateral and packaging. The Panel reviews evidence to determine that a product or service is not harmful and demonstrates a potential benefit for people with asthma or allergies, before making a recommendation.

With H1 changes also in play this season, be confident in your NZBC compliance with Bradford's H1 focused products:

For the double layer solution, a High Density R1.8 product is installed between the joists, then R5.2 product is laid over the top.
For the single layer option, over the top of joists, R7.3 product is installed.
For the single layer option, in between the joists, Bradford have developed and tested a thicker product. R7.3 (450mm wide) which is installed in-between the joists, then spills over the top to cover the joists.

Bradford Insulation produces a range of products with different R-values to meet the energy efficiency requirements of the New Zealand Building Code, which provides a minimum standard of home insulation for new homes.

Bradford Insulation has been appraised as a thermal insulation material for walls, ceilings and roofs of buildings within the following scope:

Framed or part-framed domestic and commercial buildings where the insulation remains dry during its serviceable life.

Bradford Insulation must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's Technical Literature to meet the stated thermal performance rating of the insulation.

In the opinion of BRANZ, Bradford Insulation if designed, used, installed and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of Appraisal No. 301 (2008), will meet or contribute to meeting the following provisions of the NZBC:

Clause B2 Durability: Performance B2.3.1(a) not less than 50 years and B2.3.1(b) 15 years. Bradford Insulation will meet this requirement.
Clause E3 Internal Moisture: Performance E3.3.1. Bradford Insulation will contribute to meeting this requirement.
Clause F2 Hazardous Building Materials: Performance F2.3.1. Bradford Insulation meets this requirement and will not present a health hazard to people.
Clause H1 Energy Efficiency: Performance H1.3.1(a) and H1.3.2 E. Bradford Insulation will contribute to meeting these requirements. This is an Appraisal of an Acceptable Solution in terms of New Zealand Building Code Compliance. Bradford Insulation thermal resistance (R-Value) has been determined by AS/NZS 4859.1 which is an acceptable method.

Bradford Gold wall insulation is a resilient and compressible insulation manufactured from the controlled felting of glass wool bonded with a thermosetting resin.

Bradford Insulation has been appraised as a thermal insulation material for walls, ceilings and roofs of buildings within the following scope:

Framed or part-framed domestic and commercial buildings where the insulation remains dry during its serviceable life.

Bradford Insulation must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's Technical Literature to meet the stated thermal performance rating of the insulation.
