Installing Strataflex with the Technokolla System
Description

Strataflex is a peel-and-stick, sheet-applied waterproofing and crack-isolation system for use under tile in interior or exterior areas. The 1.0 mm self-adhered elastomeric sheet is installed over NAC TAC primer with 50mm factory laps, 150mm Seam Tape for butt seams, and liquid membrane sealing at edges and penetrations.

The system accommodates falls, waterstops, flood testing, movement detailing, and under-tile heating. Its rapid installation allows same-day tiling, including setting tile as the membrane is laid where permitted by the project QA plan.

  • The system works under interior and exterior tiled flooring wherever waterproofing is required, providing a waterproofing and crack-isolation, anti-fracture layer under tile.
  • Sheets form 50mm factory laps, with 150mm Seam Tape used only for butt-jointed seams or where no overlap exists.
  • Terminations, edges and penetrations are sealed with liquid membrane, and corners and wall junctions are reinforced with Seam Tape or preformed corners.
  • NAC TAC primer provides a permanent peel-and-stick bond.
  • Flood testing is completed prior to tiling where required by the designer or BCA, otherwise follow the project QA plan.
  • For dry-only anti-fracture applications, specify ECB75 Crack Isolation Membrane with NAC TAC primer.

Scope of Use
  • Use in interior and exterior tiled areas requiring waterproofing, for example bathrooms, laundries, kitchens, corridors, entries, balconies, decks and podiums.
  • Suitable substrates include concrete, cured mortar beds, levelling compounds, plywood and approved sheet linings, and selected existing finishes subject to bond testing.
  • Provide falls of 1:50 in showers and at least 6mm per 300mm on exterior balconies and decks.
  • Under-tile heating can be encapsulated and protected by the waterproofing.
  • Movement joints are required at perimeters, over structural joints and at centres per design.
  • For project-specific detailing, quantities and programme advice, speak with the Surtec Technical Team via the EBOSS Enquire button.
Limitations on Use
  • Not for immersed environments such as pools.
  • Not a substitute for structural crack control or negative-side waterproofing.
  • Substrates must meet planeness, strength and deflection criteria before tiling.
  • Movement joints must not be omitted or bridged and must be carried through finishes where present.
  • If the project includes substrate movement or cracking, tanking, structural details, pools, facades, balconies or decks, heated floors or chemical exposure, speak with the Surtec Technical Team before specifying.
Statement of Building Code Compliance
  • Meets NZBC B2 Durability when designed and installed to recognised practice.
  • Meets NZBC E3 Internal Moisture for internal wet areas when used as the waterproofing layer in accordance with project design.
  • Meets NZBC F2 Hazardous Building Materials by normal use of inert components.
  • Membranes are tested to AS 4858 and installed to AS 3740 and the IWAM Code of Practice.
In-Service History
  • Installed across New Zealand residential and commercial projects including bathrooms, laundries, corridors, entries, balconies, decks and podiums.
  • Adopted on fast-track programmes due to same-day tiling capability, including progressive tiling as the membrane is being laid under an agreed QA plan.
  • Used alongside Technokolla primers, tile adhesives, grouts and silicones for coordinated wet-room and exterior waterproofing under tile.
  • Applied over common substrates including cured concrete, mortar beds, approved levelling compounds and selected existing finishes subject to bond testing.
  • Combined on dry-only projects with ECB75 Crack Isolation Membrane for anti-fracture where waterproofing is not required.
  • Supported locally by Surtec for design coordination, installation guidance and site QA records.
