Scope of Use

The Technokolla Wet Area Waterproofing System is designed for use beneath ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tiles, including mosaics, in internal wet areas. It is suitable for both residential and commercial applications, including bathrooms, kitchens, and laundries.

The system components — including Rasogum+, Rasolastik ADV, and Rasolastik EVO — have been appraised for use in the following scope:

  • Interior wet areas in residential, commercial, hospitality, and institutional buildings (e.g. apartments, hotels, gyms, educational facilities).
  • Wall substrates: Concrete, concrete masonry, wet area fibre cement sheet lining systems, wet area plasterboard lining systems.
  • Floor substrates: Concrete, plywood, fibre cement compressed sheet, fibre cement tile underlay.
  • Must be protected by ceramic, porcelain, or natural stone tile finishes, including mosaics, to prevent physical damage.
  • Suitable for use in standard and high-humidity environments
  • Compliant for use in NZ wind zones up to Extra High when used internally in sealed environments.
  • Membranes must be installed in accordance with Technokolla installation guidelines and protected from UV exposure during installation.

Refer to BRANZ Appraisal No. 542 and BRANZ Appraisal No. 541 for complete scope and compliance requirements.

Limitations on Use
  • Not suitable for use without a protective tile or stone finish — membranes must always be covered to prevent mechanical damage.
  • Not assessed for use over concrete slabs subject to hydrostatic or vapour pressure — in such cases, consult Technokolla/Surtec for appropriate vapour control or negative-side. waterproofing solutions. In this instance, use Rasolastik EVO, which is suitable for protecting concrete surfaces under pressure.
  • Floor structures must be designed so that deflections do not exceed 1/360th of the span under live load.
  • Not intended for exterior applications unless using the full Technokolla external system – refer to Surtec for exterior specifications.
  • Must not be applied over unstable, dusty, contaminated, or unprimed substrates.
  • Movement and control joints must be carried through to the tiled surface in accordance with best practice.
  • Must be installed strictly in accordance with Technokolla system documentation and Surtec installation guidelines.
  • Installation must be completed by Surtec-approved and trained applicators to ensure compliance and warranty.
  • Not suitable for direct UV exposure — membranes must be tiled over within the specified open time.
Statement of Building Code Compliance

In the opinion of BRANZ, the Technokolla Rasolastik and Rasogum+ Wet Area Membranes, when designed, used, installed, and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of BRANZ Appraisal No. 542 comply with the following provisions of the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC):

  • Clause B2 Durability — Performance B2.3.1 (b): 15 years
The membranes meet the durability requirements for building elements incorporating waterproofing systems.
  • Clause E3 Internal Moisture — Performance E3.3.6:
Interior wet area floors and walls incorporating Technokolla Rasolastik and Rasogum+ membranes will prevent water penetration and meet this requirement (as covered by Appraisal 542).
  • Clause F2 Hazardous Building Materials — Performance F2.3.1:
The membranes do not contain any hazardous materials and will not present a health hazard to building occupants.

Refer to BRANZ Appraisal 542 for internal wet area use applications for full scope, limitations, and compliance conditions.
