• Garage door lintels, wide span lintels, ridge beams, floor beams and rafters in residential and light commercial construction, where increased span or reduced member depth is required.
• Designed for interior and enclosed applications consistent with H1.2 treatment.
• Suitable for use in high wind and seismic zones where sized in accordance with the Prolam Specifier, Prolam span tables, or by Specific Engineering Design to NZS 3603 and AS/NZS 1170.

H1.2 treatment restricts PLX20 to interior and enclosed applications protected from the weather. Not suitable for exterior exposed, in-ground or wet applications.

Non-visual grade, not suitable for exposed feature applications where appearance is a requirement.

The beam contains steel laminates and must not be drilled, notched or rebated under any circumstance unless specifically detailed by the design engineer. Cutting to length on site is permitted only within the non-reinforced end zones as detailed in Prolam technical literature.

Members must be sized using the Prolam Specifier, Prolam span tables, or by an engineer using Prolam published structural properties.

It is the responsibility of the designer to establish hold down fixings in accordance with NZS 3604:2012 or an alternative fixing solution.

PLX20 has no generic equivalent and must not be substituted.

Designed and installed in accordance with the statements and conditions of the Prolam technical literature, Prolam PLX20 beams will meet or contribute to meeting the following provisions of the NZ Building Code.

• B1 Structure: meets the requirements of B1.3.1, B1.3.2, B1.3.3 (a, b, f, j, m, q), B1.3.4 (a, b, c, d, e). AS/NZS 1170:2002. Manufactured to AS/NZS 1328.1:1998 and AS 5068.
• B2 Durability: meets the requirements of B2.3.1 (a), B2.3.2. Timber treated in accordance with NZS 3640.
• F2 Hazardous Building Materials: meets the requirements of F2.3.1. All timber is treated in accordance with NZS 3640, including the required flash-off period before dispatch. Prolam treats its own timber and is third party audited for compliance with the New Zealand treatment standard. Safety Data Sheets for treatment chemicals are available on request.

The PLX20 was developed in early 2021 after the discontinuation of the PL17 range.

• Reduced installed weight compared with steel and flitch beam alternatives, removing the requirement for scaffolding or lifting equipment on site. Precambered as standard to offset deflection. High timber to steel ratio compared with steel or flitch alternatives.
• Lower thermal conductivity than a full steel section. 
• Timber sourced from renewable and sustainably managed New Zealand plantations.
