Fewer Fans, Better Outcomes in Affordable and Social Housing

In social and affordable housing efficiency gains can go a long way, often making a meaningful difference to installation time, coordination, and long-term costs. MultiVent helps simplify wet-area ventilation by allowing one centralised fan unit to extract from up to three wet areas through a single external exhaust penetration.

During design and construction, MultiVent can help reduce installation complexity in two main ways. Firstly, less wiring is needed as the unit only needs power, compared to three separate fans with their own switching. Secondly, only one external exhaust penetration is required, which further cuts down installation time and design complexity.

After handover, MultiVent lowers maintenance costs and increases building durability by reducing moisture-related risks. The system is normally left on its factory default settings to run continuously at a low trickle rate with a humidity automated boost function. The fan will automatically speed up when it detects a rapid rise in humidity, reducing reliance on occupants manually activating extraction or leaving fans running for long enough after moisture-generating activities like showers, cooking, or drying washing indoors.

Continuous low-level extraction also helps reduce the risk of moisture and mould build-up. The negative pressure not only removes moist air from the wet room, it also helps draw fresh air from outside into nearby rooms, encouraging airflow and reducing internal moisture. This is particularly important in well-sealed homes, which may also need replacement air pathways as part of the ventilation design, such as passive or trickle vents.

MultiVent is suitable for retrofit and new-build applications, although new-build projects provide the best opportunity to coordinate duct runs, service access and exterior exhaust locations early. The core unit is 250mm high and uses 125mm ducting to the unit and one 150mm exhaust duct, so adequate service space must be allowed.

This makes MultiVent especially relevant for stand-alone housing, semi-detached townhouses, apartments and similar residential occupancies that may prefer minimal exterior wall penetrations.
