Busy 12-Court Badminton Facility Opts for Resco Compact Laminate

An overhaul of Auckland Badminton's home on Gillies Ave in Epsom was completed in time for use by the World Masters Games in April 2017. Architect Karl Barker (Construkt Architects) says the approximately $750,000 job of reconfiguring and refurbishment of the building's administration and ablution areas was "long overdue", with no work of note having been done in these areas for around 30 years.

Karl says in addition to working within a budget which called for "making the most bang for their buck" and fixed time-frame, they were mindful of ensuring the new facilities would stand the test of time better than the previous ablution areas had.

"People can be a bit rough on sports facilities, and part of our brief was to ensure the renovations had the capacity to withstand possible unmanned 24 hour opening in future," says Karl. "We chose Resco Laminate wall lining and their strongest cubicle system (Series 7000) because we were looking for something really robust."

Karl says additional considerations in Resco's favour were that the products were "clean and tidy looking to give a modern feel." Colours used included Pewter for the doors and Off White for divisions and fascias.

With completing the job in time for the World Masters Games essential, Karl says the "positive and proactive involvement of Resco staff, right from the start" was "really helpful". Construction firm director David Coyte (N Cole Ltd) agreed, saying the Resco products specified "worked well, easy to cut, apply and fix". Says David: "We hadn't used Resco before but we would be very happy to do so again."

Resco product specialist Troy Henriques says the company was proud to play a role in ensuring the badminton hall was ready for the Masters Games, and would stand up to years of use in the future. Troy says: "The Series 7000 toilet partitions and Multicom wall panelling on this project are perfectly suited to sports facilities that intermittently cop rough use and abuse through the year. The antibacterial and anti-graffiti qualities of our Compact Laminate products guarantee value for money and clean, tidy ablution areas for many years."
