Stone Paint Coarse Creates Dramatic Finish for Multi-Clad Home

When refreshing the look of this Tauranga Home, Designer Corrine Mossop of Mossop Interiors wanted to create a modern, unified finish. The home featured three different claddings — fibre cement, weatherboard and brick, each painted in different colours. Corrine took the client’s request for a black exterior and looked for how paint could be used to bring the different cladding textures together. Porter’s Paints Stone Paint Coarse in Aniseed was chosen to create the perfect finish.

Stone Paint Coarse contains particles of graded quartz, to provide a coarse finish similar to cement bagging. “As stone paint has stone in it, it builds up a unique matt finish, which covered up the different substrates to look like one,” says Corrine. “We chose Porter’s Stone Paint Coarse because it works really well on brick and different panels, and created a unified look.”

Stone Paint Coarse was also ideal in terms of durability; it is resistant to scratches, knocks and dirt, and UV stable tinters provide exceptional colour fade resistance for a long-lasting finish.

Another dramatic addition to the home is a new garage door and custom-made gates finished in Porter’s Paints Liquid Iron and Instant Rust. The two step combination provides a natural rusted metal look for the garage door, while precise application created a two-toned rust finish for the gate. “We created different effects in the gate by using a different application process to control look of the product,” explains Corrine.

Completing the home’s makeover are further accents of colour and metallics, with stained pine panels, copper downlights, and a revamped front door finished in Porters Paints Industrial Lustre in Herculeum. “Industrial Lustre is a Micaceous Iron Oxide, which gives it a grainy feel; it looks almost glittery and glistening,” says Corrine.

The matt black finish and metallic accents have come together to create a unified look — resulting in an eye-catching home that has more than met the brief. “The client loves it,” says Corrine. “People just stop as they drive by and go wow. It’s a real standout house.”
