Accessible Waste Management Systems

Designing or modifying a kitchen that is accessible for a range of users can be challenging. It’s important to choose the right storage hardware and make sure it is positioned in the right place. This is especially critical when selecting an optimal waste bin, which is one of the most used appliances in the kitchen.

Hideaway Bins have two core product features that enable their waste bin systems to be positioned in the optimum place for accessibility.

Hideaway Bins are designed with flexible mounting options to give complete design freedom to place the waste bin in the most accessible position possible. The frame of the bin can be fixed into the top or the side of the cabinet, or both for ultimate strength. Fixing through the top means the bin can fit any cabinet width, for ultimate design flexibility. Flexible mounting options allow Hideaway Bins to be installed at bench height. This is the optimal height for clearing waste directly off a benchtop — no bending or reaching into awkward under sink cupboards required.

All Hideaway Bins are designed with overextension runners. This makes it easy to remove or empty the bin, without having to compromise on space optimisation and ergonomics. The rear bucket can be removed independently of the front bucket from beneath the benchtop.

Additionally, the new Concelo range from Hideaway has premium features to improve accessibility. For users with limited strength or grip, Concelo waste bins are compatible with electronic push to open mechanisms. This works well in conjunction with the hands-free Active Lid system, which is hidden from sight at the top of the bin inside the cabinet and drops down to close over the buckets when the unit is closed. The motion of the lid is synchronised with the opening and closing action of the unit, which lets the user keep their hands free to simply drop waste into the bin.

Hideaway Bins are available nationwide through Hafele and via regional distribution partners Carters, ITM, Impeys, Rosecity Wood Pannels and Scooters. To find out more visit www.hideawaybins.co.nz
