Dulux Takes On A New Shade Of Green With envirO2

The Dulux envirO₂ range has achieved a PlatinumHEALTH and GreenRATE Level A certification with Global GreenTag’s Product Health Declarations, making Dulux the only major paint brand in Australia and New Zealand to receive these internationally recognised eco accreditations across a full range.

Dulux envirO₂ is low odour and has very low VOC content with less than one gram per litre, earning its GreenTag and Environmental Choice New Zealand certifications. The premium range offers a full interior system, including Acrylic Sealer Undercoat, Ceiling Flat, Interior Low Sheen and Semi-Gloss Enamel.

The packaging used in the range is made up of 50% recycled content. The pails are also able to be fully recycled after use, which is another way Dulux NZ is working towards its commitment to a sustainable future.

Heather Goode, Dulux Technical, Quality and Colour Services Manager, says receiving Global GreenTag certification is a testament to the quality of envirO₂ as it launches to market with a brand-new product formula. “Some low VOC paints can mean a trade-off in performance, but Dulux envirO₂ delivers a premium finish that is washable, stain resistant, and helps to prevent mould growth without compromising on quality and application properties, such as opacity and finish,” Heather says.

“Dulux is committed to the ongoing research and development of innovation that reduces the environmental impact of our products, without affecting their outstanding performance. The health and safety of consumers, customers and the environment form a core element of the Dulux business,” Heather adds.

The Global GreenTag Certification Programme is recognised in every green building rating tool used in ANZ and certifies over 14,000 products for more than 120 companies with factories in 22 countries across four continents. David Baggs, world-renowned sustainability and materials expert, and CEO and Program Director of the Global GreenTag Certification Program says GreenTag was established in response to, and inspired by, the need to make healthy, planet-aware, ethically sourced and trusted product purchases simple for both industry and consumers.

“Paints don’t often list ingredients on the label or in their Safety Data Sheets. But even if they did, how many people would know how or take the trouble to figure out what all that information means?” David says. “By default, people tend to fall back on whether a product is ‘low odour’ or not. It’s not a great indicator, and consumers would be better informed selecting a product that is eco-labelled.”

HealthRATE Tags rate the ‘Healthiness in Use’ of products to inform end users and consumers how the products will influence the health of their work and home environments. PlatinumHEALTH status is the top performance tier.

GreenRATE is a three-tiered Green Star and Homestar recognised product rating system under the Green Building Councils of New Zealand and Australia’s ‘Sustainable Product Certification.

Level A provides 100% recognition of the product in Green Star’s ‘Sustainable Products’ and ’Indoor Pollutants’ (VOC Limiting) credits.
Ecolabels, like Global GreenTag and Environmental Choice New Zealand, are essential to bridging both the trust and information gaps identified as the major barriers to purchasing such preferred products.

The Dulux envirO₂ range is manufactured at the Dulux Gracefield facility located in Lower Hutt. The site manufactures water-based paints and stains and is an ISO 14001 certified facility, meaning it operates under one of the world’s strictest environmental management guidelines.

The range is available in the Dulux Colours of New Zealand colours tinted off a vivid white base. The products come in a 10L pack size and are available from Dulux Trade Outlets, including selected Guthrie Bowron, Colourplus and PlaceMakers stores nationwide.
