The Prolam Specifier is an efficient and reliable tool for designing structural timber elements. It covers a wide range of most common structural members, including:

• Lintels in different configurations such as lintels supporting girder trusses, ridge beams, attic trusses, and cantilever lintels for corner windows
• Roof framing members such as ridge beams, rafters, and veranda beams
• Floor Framing members such as deck bearers, floor beams, deck joists and floor joists
• Bracing and non-bracing posts for decks, carports, and verandas
• Bracing portal systems for wide openings,including garages, large glazed windows and doorways.

The Prolam Specifier allows users to effortlessly design members with spans and loaded dimensions beyond the scope of NZS3604. It allows users to quickly and easily perform design calculations and fine-tune design parameters to identify project-specific options, and automatically generates documents for building consent packs, including PS1s. 

The bracing post calculators make it possible to create stand-alone or attached decks, carports, and verandas without needing additional means of bracing required by NZS3604 which can negatively affect a project's aesthetic and function.

The Prolam Specifier was launched in 2014. The current version (Version 3.0: was released in 2025, and the Prolam Specifier is subject to regular updates and additions in response to user feedback and suggestions.
