The Prolam Raking Portal is a glulam timber portal frame for mono-pitch and dual-pitch raked ceilings, supplied under Specific Engineering Design. Each portal is engineered to project-specific spans, pitch and loads, and delivered as a prefabricated kitset including foundation and framing connections.
Each portal is designed for a specific project and must not be relocated, resized or reused on another project without re-engineering. Substitution of any member changes the design and voids the PS1.
All members must be installed strictly in accordance with the issued design and connection details. No drilling, notching or rebating unless specifically detailed by the design engineer.
Timber must be protected from the elements until sealed, and all exposed members sealed with a quality paint or stain system within 14 days of delivery. All cuts, holes and rebates must be resealed.
Fixings must be selected for the corrosion environment in accordance with NZS 3604 Section 4. Requires building consent.
Designed and installed in accordance with the issued Prolam design documentation, the Prolam Raking Portal will meet or contribute to meeting the following provisions of the NZ Building Code.
A Producer Statement PS1 is issued with each Specific Engineering Design.
Prolam has been supporting architects and construction professionals for 20 years to design and build with strength, confidence and ease with premium engineered timber solutions.
How the SED Raking Portal design to delivery service works
Prolam’s Raking Portal solution supports both Prolam-led Specific Engineering Design (SED) and collaboration with project structural engineers.
Where the project engineer is undertaking the SED, Prolam can assist with structural timber expertise, modelling data and defined connection detailing.
Alternatively, Prolam’s engineering team can develop the portal design and documentation to support building consent.
1. Either COMPLETE the Design Request form (optional) or email through any available project details (e.g. spans, pitch, loads, and site location)
2. SAVE AND EMAIL the completed form (if used) along with building plans to Prolam's technical team. If further information or clarification is required, the engineering team will be in contact.
3. RECEIVE a quotation for the Specific Engineering Design (SED). Once accepted and the design invoice PAID, structural drawings and connection details are prepared for REVIEW AND APPROVAL.
4. Prolam ISSUE the finalised design package, including supporting documentation for building consent. A COST ESTIMATE for manufacturing the portal will also be received.
5. PLACE an order once building consent has been approved.
Prolam MANUFACTURE AND DELIVER the prefabricated Raking Portal kitset to the nominated timber merchant.
For 20 years, Prolam has been a proud manufacturer of New Zealand structural laminated posts and beams.
