Vertical Lossnay Fresh Air Heat Recovery Ventilation for Below-Ceiling Installation
Description

The slimline, Vertical Lossnay Fresh Air Heat Recovery Ventilation range is a balanced pressure mechanical ventilation system that extracts stale air and replaces this with fresh, filtered air from outside. With the unit's small footprint and upright design, it can be installed below the ceiling in the garage, laundry or utility cupboard — providing a viable solution for projects when roof cavities and ceiling voids have limited space.

The sensible counter flow heat exchanger offers pre-warming or pre-cooling of the incoming fresh air by using the heat energy from extract air - this in turn allows dwellings to simultaneously maximise efficiencies whilst maintaining a healthy indoor air quality. Furthermore, extraction from moisture laden areas is possible, for example; bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.

In addition, the systems feature a boost function, integrated bypass damper and can be interlocked with Mitsubishi Electric Ducted Air Conditioning Systems as well as controlled via third party CO2 sensors.

Available in three sizes:

  • VL-250CZPVU-L/R-E Heat Recovery, 69 l/s of air volume
  • VL-350CZPVU-L/R-E Heat Recovery, 89 l/s of air volume
  • VL-500CZPVU-L/R-E Heat Recovery, 139 l/s of air volume

Advanced Lossnay Wi-Fi Control Comes as Standard

Lossnay Wi-Fi Control shows by how many degrees Lossnay is pre-warming or pre-cooling the building in real‑time.

The App will also proactively remind when it is time to clean filters, maximising both cost‑efficient operation and health benefits.

Key Features
  • Assists with moisture control and condensation build-up
  • Supplies fresh filtered air from outside, not attic air
  • Retains heat to pre-warm incoming air, achieving heat exchange/energy reclaim efficiency up to 92%*1
  • Energy efficient fans with low SFP (Specific Fan Power) with static pressure available up to 200pa.
  • Quiet operation from 15dB(A)*2
  • Automatic Summer Bypass function helps cool interiors by bypassing heat exchange and introducing cooler outdoor air
  • 4 speed variable airflow control with or without CO2 sensors/BMS
  • Easy access filters for maintenance
  • Option to interlocking with a ducted air-conditioning system to optimise energy efficiency and comfort
  • Advanced Wi-Fi Control comes as standard to control the unit remotely and make heat recovery visible

*1The Heat recovery efficiency for the system is measured at speed 1 for VL500 unit
*2On lowest fan speed, measured at 3m from the Centre of unit in an anechoic chamber

Scope of Use

Suitable to provide balanced heat recovery ventilation to applications such as:

  • Residential homes
  • Commercial offices
  • Aged care facilities
  • Multi-story buildings where ceiling voids are limited

In addition extraction from wet areas is possible, for example; bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.

Advanced Lossnay Wi-Fi Control comes as standard with the Vertical Lossnay Range.

Limitations on Use
  • Not suitable to be used without a plumbing connection to drain the condensate.
  • Not suitable to operate the bypass when heating in winter as this will cause condensate to drip from the unit.
  • Not suitable to be mounted outdoors or in wet/humid areas, as doesn't have a high IP rating to handle moisture.
  • Not suitable for the unit to be placed in areas that are exposed to higher temperatures (40°C or higher), naked flames or in an environment with combustible fumes.
  • Not suitable to be horizontally mounted, as the mounting type would not allow condensate to be drained.
Statement of Building Code Compliance
  • All Lossnay units hold an ESS supplier declaration of compliance, in accordance with regulation 101A of the electricity regulations 1997
  • Models are designed to meet and comply with G4 regulation & AS NZS 4303:1990*
  • Exceeds H1/VM3 efficiency requirements in commercial buildings
  • Mitsubishi Electric measures figures in a specification chart according to EN13141-7:2010, and characteristic curves are measured by chamber method
  • The sound power level measurement is performed according to ISO3744 with a hemi anechoic chamber
  • Advanced Wi-Fi Control comes as standard to control the unit remotely and make heat recovery visible

*Appropriate model needs to be sized and selected by the Architect, Engineering Consultant or Designer to further ensure it complies to meet the standard Project specific.

In-Service History

The Vertical Lossnay range was launched in 2021 to the New Zealand market.

The full Lossnay range has been in Mitsubishi Electric New Zealand’s product portfolio since 1996, over the years the product has been used on multiple commercial and residential projects.

Other Performance Attributes

High sensible heat exchange efficiency –

Featuring a sensible counter flow heat exchanger made of treated recyclable resin, the range can recover up to 92%* of heat energy, with an additional advantage of being able to extract from wet areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, toilets and laundries.

Easy access maintenance and filtration upgrades –

As the unit can be mounted inside the building envelope, it’s easy for the end user to perform regular maintenance, which includes filter cleaning and upgrades. The cores being made of treated resin can be washed too with luke warm water. The units can also be equipped with a nitrogen oxide filter without needing a filtration box.

Variable speed control  –

The units can operate on a variable speed mode using sensors or being programmed on a weekly schedule.

Automatic Summer Bypass -

Using the on-board temperature sensors, the Vertical Lossnay unit automatically enters Bypass Mode when it detects a space is hotter than desired and the outside air is cooler.

To reduce the risk of overheating the home, fresh air is introduced, bypassing the Lossnay Core. This is ideal for cooling down a dwelling that may have overheated during the day once the outside temperature has dropped in the evening.

Boost Function –

Equipped with a boost function to run on a set timer at max speed, helping to extract a moist area or high CO2 level area at full capacity when needed.

Mitsubishi Electric Wi-Fi Control Compatibility –

The units can be integrated to a LAN module for ease of control access via the Mitsubishi Electric App, which makes operation available remotely too.

*The heat recovery efficiency for the system is measured at speed 1 for VL500 unit.

Warranty

5 year parts and labour warranty.

Maintenance –

The units are expected to be serviced regularly as per the maintenance cycle. Following are the recommended frequency only as they differ based on usage and outdoor conditions:

  • Lossnay Core (washable) – once per 2 years or 6000 hours
  • Filters – once a year or 3000 hours
