Air curtains are ideal for commercial and industrial spaces such as supermarkets, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, and retail stores. They help maintain a clean, comfortable space while reducing heating and cooling energy costs in areas where entryways are frequently open to external environments.

Air curtains should not be installed in bathrooms or areas with excessive moisture readings of more than 90% relative humidity. 

Mitsubishi Electric GK Series Air Curtains comply with the supplier declaration on conformity in accordance with IEC60335-2-80:2002, AMD 1:2004, AMD 2:2008, IEC60335-1:2010 AMD 1:2013, and AMD 2:2016 standards.

To evaluate the performance of the air curtain a shut-out test was carried out using CO₂. Both the interior and exterior of a test room, measuring just over 5 metres wide, 8 metres deep, and 2.5 metres high, were filled with CO₂. The indoor temperature was set to 20°C, while the outside was 8°C. The model tested was the GK-2509.

The door was then opened, and the air curtain was turned on. Researchers measured how much CO₂ stayed inside to assess the barrier effect. The results showed that the air curtain blocked approximately 70% to 90% of the heat, compared to a glass plate that blocks 100%.
