Universal Glazing Systems (UGS) was contacted to supply a couple of outdoor roofs at the Experience Te Puia tourist attraction in Rotorua. They were looking to cover two separate 4.8m wide by 5.7m long roofs outside their newly renovated Gift Shop. The Clearspan Glazing Box system, with UGS’s range of brackets and 6mm thick Grey panels were a perfect fit for this design.
The UGS standard PS1 was sufficient for council which allowed the builder, Robert Mansell, to easily order, receive and install the two roofs which were attached to the current building. Using strengthened steel posts and a beam allowed this long roof to be supported easily. “The assistance given to me by UGS was excellent, simple explanations and installation instructions were given as this was my first time installing this brand of roof,” says Robert.
Nick Dallimore, the General Manager of Operations and Site Development at Te Puia was “very happy with the look and function” of the two roofs supplied. He is now looking to add 200m² over the Hia Kai Café courtyard at Te Puia and UGS was able to provide a site-specific PS1 for this project to help with the local council. “This project will be a little more significant and we look forward to completing the design work for this soon,” states Nick.
Matt Gaunt from Azero Essential Architecture in Rotorua has been working with Mike from UGS on the design of this roof. “The Universal Glazing System was the natural choice for this project. Having previously specified the system for two smaller roof areas at Te Puia, we were confident it would be just as effective for the larger roof adjacent to the Hai Kai Café. Its adaptability and suitability for a range of designs made it easy to integrate seamlessly into our vision for the space."
Mike from UGS states, “this is an exciting project to showcase the excellent products from UGS in another commercial setting. The challenge of covering such a large area while making it functional and aesthetically pleasing has been an exciting challenge.”
