Crazy paving, characterised by irregularly shaped pieces of stone fitted together like a puzzle, has a history dating back to ancient Roman times. It has seen many resurgences throughout the ages for its aesthetic appeal and practical application for roadways, paths, and landscaped gardens. In 2025 it is having a major revival in both interior and exterior design with porcelain tiles being smashed to create customised areas or, as we are increasingly seeing, modular crazy paving tiles that offer more refined grout spaces and a more sophisticated overall finish.

The Tile Depot has been on the search for some time to secure stocked modular crazy paving designs that capture the raw character of crazy paving without looking too repetitive or obviously factory-made — and they have found it in two new collections Andes and Flagstone. Both interlocking designs capture the irregular shapes and organic appearance of true flagstone paving.

Both collections are comprised of Spanish glazed porcelain, manufactured with a microgrip finish that gives a high degree of slip-resistance whilst still being relatively smooth to the touch. This makes them ideal for both interior and exterior areas — perfect for achieving seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

These beautiful stone-like designs are gorgeous on both floors and walls and a natural fit for irregularly shaped spaces, and a beautiful way to soften modern architecture or add charm to older homes.
