A Pre-finished Interlocking Soffit Panelling System That Streamlines Construction

Traditionally soffit installations have been unnecessarily complicated, involving multiple trades and excessive materials. Ribon has resolved these issues with their Continuous Interlocking Soffit system for Residential Homes — a solution that simplifies install and reduces trades on site while delivering consistent, visually appealing soffits.

Applications

Ribon’s residential soffit system is designed for stand-alone residential homes, including high-end homes where a sleek architectural finish is desired. The system incorporates multiple components, including the rollformed soffit panels, bracketing and trims into a single easy to install system, with options available to suit different design requirements:

  • For level soffits: Interlocking roll-formed panels are installed within a proprietary bracketing system designed specifically for horizontal installation.
  • For sloping soffits: The system uses a specialised articulated bracketing system featuring a combination of sloping support brackets and fascia pivot brackets which enable efficient installation on sloping designs.

Key performance benefits

Efficient installation with fewer subtrades

Ribon’s unique panel and frame design ensures quick and efficient installation, with no need for builders to erect additional framing for the eaves. And as soffit panels are made of coil coated steel, they are prefinished, removing the need for additional subtrades such as painters. This reduces coordination on site and avoids delays, helping to keep construction time down.

The system is available in a wide range of sizes and lengths are available to suit various eave widths, resulting in versatility across a range of projects and greater material, labour and time efficiency.

Reduces waste on site

Ribon’s soffit systems are also a low waste option. The Ribon team custom measure all panels to achieve less than 3% waste, and the minimal waste that is produced is recycled here in NZ to manufacture new products.

Minimises long-term maintenance

The steel construction and quality finish of Ribon soffit systems helps to minimise long-term maintenance, with no need for repainting and the associated costs. The system-based approach to Ribon’s design also offers an advantage over the long-term, ensuring that the soffit will perform as a system, with no issues due to incompatible components or installation methods.

Environmental performance

Ribon’s Continuous Interlocking Soffit Systems are made of locally manufactured steel, a durable material that’s infinitely recyclable. And with the commissioning of the new electric arc furnace (EAF) at the NZ Steel Plant in Glenbrook, the steel used is some of the most sustainable in the world, with the use of local strap steel and renewable generated electricity significantly lowering its carbon footprint.

Design support

With a knowledgeable technical team and fast turn-around of all queries, Ribon can help designers find the right soffit solution for their projects. At the specification stage they are available to visit your practice or building sites and provide samples and design advice, while moving onto the detailing phase they can assist with design reviews, engineering and drawing development.

History of use

Ribon systems have been used in New Zealand for over 15 years where they have provided visually appealing soffits on homes throughout the country.

The low maintenance, cost effectiveness and clean aesthetic of the systems has also resulted in quick adoption of Ribon systems for commercial projects, including large scale projects such as high rise hotel apartments, retirement buildings, canopies, carparks and even an international airport in PNG.

Warranty & maintenance

These prefinished systems keep maintenance down with no need for repainting. A simple wash down with water every six months is required, with a soft brush beforehand for homes in dusty or salty environments. The steel is backed by a 15-year warranty for soffit applications.
