At Wallaceville Estate (Stage 9) in Upper Hutt, developer Gillies Group sought design solutions that would enhance long-term liveability while supporting modern, connected communities. Key to this was addressing the acoustic needs of medium-density housing, where boundary treatments must work harder to provide privacy and comfort.
To support this vision, Boundaryline’s SmartWall fencing was selected for its durability, low maintenance, and proven acoustic performance. SmartWall features a robust steel post and rail framework combined with cross-laminated timber (CLT) palings and MCA-treated timber. This combination reduces the risk of warping while offering excellent mass and density for noise control — ideal for high-occupancy environments.
In this application, SmartWall fencing contributes to a quieter, more comfortable environment for residents by reducing sound transfer between neighbouring properties and public reserves. Its clean lines and refined detailing also align with the Scandinavian-inspired design aesthetic of the development.
"We love working with Boundaryline because they make things easy — for us and for our clients," say Gillies Group. "Once we know what type of fencing or gate is needed, their team helps us find the right fit and gets everything sorted quickly. The quality is always excellent, and it means we can keep the project moving smoothly without delays. It’s one of the partnerships that helps us deliver great results every time."
By integrating acoustic fencing as part of the boundary treatment strategy, Gillies Group ensured that Wallaceville Estate not only looks great but also delivers on key performance criteria around noise, privacy, and long-term value.
