ARDEX Achieves Toitū Envirocare carbonreduce Certification for the Third Year

ARDEX New Zealand has proudly achieved its third consecutive Toitū carbonreduce certification, marking another milestone in its commitment to environmental leadership and data-driven climate action. This certification, issued by Toitū Envirocare, verifies ARDEX’s rigorous carbon reporting processes and tangible reductions in greenhouse gas emissions marking another step forward in part of a Group shared responsibility ARDEX goes Zero by 2045 (CO2 neutral for all scopes group-wide by 2045).

This year, ARDEX New Zealand reduced their gross emissions by 29% compared to previous year 2023 (1,593 → 1,134 tCO2e) and achieved a 16.67% reduction in carbon intensity per tonne sold — a direct result of smarter logistics, lower diesel use, and better waste management.

The programme looks at six categories of emissions including operational activities, purchased energy, and impacts from some value chain activities, which relate to Scope 1, 2, and 3 sources to outline direct and indirect emissions.

According to Ronald Rose, Commercial Director, ARDEX New Zealand, the Ardex Group has set several global sustainability goals, many of which will take time and require advancements in raw materials technology.

“Achieving Toitu Carbon Reduce has allowed us to deeply examine our local efforts and focus on innovative ideas that can make a difference now as we prepare for the future,” he said. “At ARDEX, we believe that focusing on new technologies and removing carbon where possible, rather than offsetting, is a step in the right direction for the benefit of the planet.”

Just some of the improvement projects include transport and logistics.

“By localising our manufacturing processes, we are able to reduce sea freight distances and minimise the carbon footprint associated with transporting materials. This not only supports our sustainability goals but also strengthens our commitment to the New Zealand community,” said Andrew Clayton, Operations Manager, ARDEX New Zealand.

ARDEX Undertile Sheet Membrane (WPM 750 and WPM 1000) has been appraised for use as a waterproofing membrane for the internal wet areas of buildings, within the following scope:

On floor substrates of concrete, plywood, compressed fibre cement sheet and fibre cement sheet tile underlay, and on wall substrates of concrete, concrete masonry, wet area fibre cement sheet lining systems and wet area plasterboard lining systems; and,
When protected from physical damage by ceramic or stone tile finishes; and,
Where floors are designed and constructed such that deflections do not exceed 1/360th of the span. 2.2

ARDEX WPM 750, provided it is used, installed and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of the ARDEX WPM 750 Datasheet, will meet the following conditions of the NZBC:

Clause B2 Durability: Performance B2.3.1 (b) 15 years
Clause E3 Internal Moisture: Performance E.3.3.6
Clause F2 Hazardous Building Materials: Performance F2.3.1

ARDEX WeldTec Tanking System

ARDEX WPM 1500 is a pre-applied, fleece-lined, weldable waterproofing membrane for below ground tanking and gas barrier applications.

NZ Made

ARDEX WPM 1500 is normally used as a single layer membrane in horizontal or vertical applications for waterproofing in below ground applications. It is primarily applied to the outside of a sub-structure of a building, such as a foundation or basement, to prevent water ingress or as a gas barrier to prevent the ingress of toxic gases.

ARDEX WPM 1500 can also be used in other applications including:

Under floor slabs
Behind masonry walls
The lining of substrates of in-situ or precast concrete
Retaining walls
Lift shafts
Tunnels

ARDEX WPM 1500 can also be used in combination with other ARDEX WeldTec products. ARDEX WPM 1500 may be used in various combinations to produce a variety of specifications tailored to suit the individual waterproofing needs.

B2 DURABILITY: Performance B2.3.1(a) Not less than 50 Years ARDEX WPM 1500 is a suitable material for tanking (Butyl) and is expected to have a minimum life of 50 years provided it is installed in accordance with the technical literature.
E2 EXTERNAL MOISTURE: Performance E2.3.3 Walls, floors, and structural elements in contact with, or in close proximity to, the ground must not absorb or transmit moisture in quantities that could cause undue dampness, damage to building elements, or both.
ARDEX WPM 1500 is considered impervious and has been independently verified to have a vapour flow resistance greater than 1700 MN s/g NZS 3604:2011 and NZS 4229:2013 require DPMs to have a vapour flow resistance of no less than 90 MN s/g
F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS: Performance F2.3.1 Materials must not present a health risk to people. ARDEX WPM 1500 is inert and meets this requirement. Note: Basement designs solutions must be considered and alternative solutions — they are not covered by NZBC E2/AS1

ARDEX WPM 1000:

Specifically designed to be used as an external waterproofing membrane for directly adhered tiled surfaces or for other non-exposed use
Suitable for use with most ARDEX tile adhesives in domestic and commercial locations over most common substrates
An approved waterproofing membrane for use under ARDEX undertile drainage systems such as ARDEX UD 150

ARDEX WPM 1000, assuming use, install and maintenance stated within the ARDEX WPM 1000 Datasheet, will meet the following provisions of the NZBC:
