Designed for ambience and as a haven from busy city life, each material used in construction was handpicked to get a specific style in place, with attention to detail key in every design.

Therefore, the solution for that final touch for balconies needed to match this carefully curated space — something that the UNEX team was ready to provide, backed by their expertise in luxury living spaces.

The challenge

To add a final design touch, a balustrade solution was called for that would not obscure the beautiful views that this sought-after complex offers, while at the same time offering a level of safety and convenience, all in one bespoke design solution.

The solution

Tasked with providing a project resolution that would fulfil the goal of marrying aesthetics and function, architects at the Paterson Cullen Archaus team selected a premium look to match the character of this modern complex with its signature architectural details.

Working closely with the architects at Paterson Cullen Archaus at the consent stage of the project, the architect specified UNEX Arena Point Fixed, glass infill balustrade system.

Frameless cantilevered glass balustrades need to meet the provisions of Building Code clauses B1 (structure), B2 (Durability), F2 (hazardous materials) and F4 (Safety from falling).

Unex provided various site-specific producer statements for each fixing method in a format that Auckland Council requires as well as a producer statement cover sheet for structural glass balustrade systems.

Kalmar Construction approached UNEX at the tender stage of the project and worked closely with the dedicated UNEX onsite team to complete the installation. The total materials used included 246 LM of frameless glass balustrade with stainless steel points and a stainless steel side rail attached to glass. Also included was Windsor Balustrade powder-coated in Dulux Dark Bronze.

The result

For 308 Remuera, the chosen solution enhanced the dynamic and majestic design of this luxury apartment development, thanks to the unique and timeless finish. The UNEX team successfully installed high-quality balustrades and stainless steel rails that completed the overall building design.

What made Arena Points ideal for 308 Remuera is that it is a hassle-free material to work with and can easily be fastened to wall material with circular side mounts. These mounts are not visible from a deck or balcony, which means in the case of this project, the clean-cut design of the building exterior was easily maintained, resulting in a fresh appeal for the modern architecture.

The Arena Points style has a lot of flexibility too, as the points can be polished or brushed stainless steel, powder coated or anodised to match any décor theme. This means that if there are any future exterior changes made, it will be easy to update the look of these fixtures without needing a major overhaul.
