Reducing Waste Water Noise in Urban Living Environments

Current urban living environments require that more people are living in close proximity to each other, as councils and town planners promote the intensification of apartment-style living to allow for a rapidly growing population. Communal living requires specifiers to focus on reducing noise in these intimate environments, to increase the comfort and wellbeing of the occupants.

To assist with this noise-reduction initiative, Marley offers the Poliphon Sanitary Acoustic Plumbing system, which has been specified and installed into buildings throughout New Zealand. The Poliphon system features a three-layer, PP-MD (modified polypropylene) co-extruded pipe, a range of fittings and acoustic pipe clips. This BRANZ-appraised system has been shown to reduce the noise generated by waste water flowing inside pipework to a level of 20dB.

Additional benefits of the Poliphon system are that it is lightweight, resistant to temperature change and can be installed at temperatures below -10°C. The polypropylene pipes, combined with a rubber-ring jointing system, allow for additional flexibility, and it can also be used in conjunction with Marley’s OPTIM DWV Sanitary uPVC system for branch connections.
