Whether you are looking for a cladding, soffit, louvre, batten or panelling system, Metwood coatings can be applied to most aluminium systems, providing the visual appearance of a timber or patina finish, while offering all the benefits and durability of aluminium.
The Metwood coating is virtually maintenance free, reducing the time and costs involved to maintain natural timber — a key advantage for projects in harsh environments, or multi-storey projects where scaffolding would be required. As a more dimensionally stable product, aluminium also ensures greater durability in harsh environments, including protection against corrosive environments.
The key to the longevity and realistic look of Metwood’s coating is the two-step coating process. First, the substrate is powder coated, and then the woodgrain pattern is sublimated into the powder coating, providing a durable finish. Because the wood grain pattern used is a photo of real timber, the end result is very realistic and natural looking.
The warranty provided covers 25 years on the underlying powder coating, and 10 years on the actual pattern. The warranty is valid providing the property is greater than 25 metres from the high tide mark, or any geothermal activity. For harsh environments, maintenance requires a relatively simple wash down every three months.
Metwood provides hundreds of different finishes, including matches for NZ native timbers, as well as cedars and many other imported timber grains. In addition, Metwood has a range of patina finishes that allow a corten type look to be provided to aluminium, reducing the issues of leaching and the weight issues associated with steel products.
Contrary to most other products, as a general rule, the darker the Metwood finish that is chosen, the better it will perform over the long term. This is because darker finishes are derived from a darker underlying powder coating colour, which acts as a better host to the sublimation, providing more protection to the pattern over the longer term. In saying that, some of Metwood’s lightest colours will also perform as well as the darker colours.
With a Group 1 S internal and Type A external fire rating, Metwood coatings wont alter the performance of an aluminium system, allowing you to achieve a wooden look wherever your chosen aluminium system complies with the relevant fire rating requirements.
Metwood is a versatile coating, which is suitable for both external and internal applications. It can be applied to aluminium profiles, panels and flashings. Metwood works with most of the major aluminium fabricators in NZ, so no matter what aluminium system you specify, it can be finished in a Metwood finish, to provide the ‘warmth and beauty of natural timber, with the durability of aluminium’.
