Metwood
Metwood has obtained Group Number 1-S and Type A fire rating certification from BRANZ. Essentially, because Metwood is a thin coating applied over aluminium, if you have an aluminium system that complies with your required fire rating, then finishing that aluminium with a Metwood finish wont alter the outcome of the systems fire rating performance.
This provides the opportunity to bring a timber look to areas of a building that may otherwise be difficult to obtain this softer wooden appearance. Metwood is suitable for both internal and external applications, so whether you are looking to overcome a fire rating issue for an internal fitout, or looking for a solution to bring a timber look to a boundary, a soffit, or at height in a building, aluminium finished in a Metwood coating could be your solution.
Metwood is a versatile coating which can be applied to a wide variety of aluminium profiles, panels and flashings. Metwood works with most of the major aluminium fabricators in NZ, so no matter what aluminium system you specify, it can be finished in a Metwood finish, to provide the warmth and beauty of natural timber, with the durability and fire rating performance of aluminium.
Metwood provides hundreds of different finishes, including matches for NZ native timbers, as well as cedars and many other imported timber grains. In addition, Metwood has a range of patina finishes that allows a corten type look to be provided to aluminium, reducing the issues of leaching and the weight issues associated with steel products.
The Metwood coating is virtually maintenance free, reducing the time and costs involved to maintain natural timber — a key advantage for projects in harsh environments, or multi-storey projects where scaffolding would be required. As a more dimensionally stable product, aluminium also ensures greater durability.
The key to the longevity and realistic look of Metwood’s coating is the 2-step coating process. First, the substrate is powder coated, and then the woodgrain pattern is sublimated into the powder coating, providing a durable finish. Because the wood grain pattern used is a photo of real timber, the end result is very realistic and natural looking.
The warranty provided covers 25 years on the underlying powder coating, and 10 years on the actual pattern.
