Set against the vibrant energy of an urban neighbourhood, Western Springs Terraces demanded a modern, warm aesthetic that could also stand up to changing weather conditions. That’s where Weathertex — exclusively supplied by ITI NZ — came in with its zero-carbon footprint and simple installation process, perfectly suited for Auckland’s fast-paced building environment.

The story of Western Springs Terraces centres on combining a timber-rich exterior with the practical performance needed for multi-unit living. Weathertex Selflok Ecogroove 150mm Horizontal and Weathergroove Smooth 300mm Vertical, finished in Resene Element and Resene Grey Friars, achieved a seamless look that honours the natural grain of real timber.

Auckland’s climate swings between sunshine and sudden downpours, making durability paramount. By specifying Weathertex, Michael Cooper Architects delivered exteriors that remain low-maintenance, long-lasting, and effortlessly elegant. “We needed a cladding solution that was easy to install yet still delivered visual impact,” says Michael Cooper. “Weathertex offered both performance and an authentic timber feel — exactly what the project demanded.”

The result? A striking ensemble of residences that reflect Auckland’s contemporary spirit while benefitting from an eco-conscious, high-performance cladding. the scope limitations of NASH Building Envelope Solutions Paragraph 1.1 for steel-framed buildings; and,
with a risk score of 0-20, calculated in accordance with NASH Building Envelope Solutions; and,
situated in NASH Standard Part 2 Wind Zones up to, and including, Extra High.

In the opinion of BRANZ, Weathertex Weathergroove Panel Cladding Systems, if designed, used, installed and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of BRANZ Appraisal 513 and 514, will meet the following provisions of the NZBC:

Clause B1 STRUCTURE: Performance B1.3.1, B1.3.2 and B1.3.4. Meets the requirement for loads arising from self-weight, earthquake, wind, impact and creep [i.e. B1.3.3 (a), (f), (h), (j) and (q)].
Clause B2 DURABILITY: Performance B2.3.1 (b) 15 years, B2.3.1 (c) 5 years and B2.3.2.
Clause E2 EXTERNAL MOISTURE: Performance E2.3.2.
Clause F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS: Performance F2.3.1.
