Extreme Balustrade — Framed Baluster
Description

Unex’s Extreme Framed Baluster Barrier styles are a range of framed aluminium panels with vertical uprights, designed for crowd and public loadings C1/C2, C5 and D. This proprietary barrier system saves the cost and time associated with designing a one-off barrier to meet these crowd loads and it can also be finished in a range of colours.

Key Features
  • Specifically engineered to comply with extremely heavy live load classes C1/C2, C5 and D of AS/NZS 1170.1:2002 and parts of F/G
  • Ideal in commercial applications including sporting facility grandstands, schools, shopping centres and hospitality
  • Commonly used on residential applications as an extra high glazed wind-break screen
  • Designed for standard heights of 1100mm and 1200mm from finished deck level
  • Wide range of finish options
  • Made from 6000 series aluminium alloys and screws together with minimal, if any, welds required

Scope of Use

Unex’s Extreme Barrier styles have two ranges — X1500 Series and X3000 Series.

  • X1500 Series is designed to meet classifications C1/C2 and D of AS/NZS 1170.1, which stipulates a 1.5kN/m load on the top edge — twice the load required on a typical residential application.
  • X3000 Series is designed to meet classifications C5 of AS/NZS 1170.1 which stipulates a 3.0kN/m load on the top edge — four times the load required on a typical residential application.

The Extreme Framed Baluster Barriers are typically used for, but not limited to:

  • Grandstands
  • Gymnasiums
  • Surf clubs
  • Shopping centres
  • Restaurants
  • Bars
  • Sports clubs
  • School halls
  • Cafes
  • Public pavilions

Extreme Barriers are also suited to other situations where large post spacings, a bulkier look, or additional height is required.

There is a wide range of fixing options available for both suits to fix to steel, timber and concrete applications. Site-specific specifications may also be provided upon request for those non-standard situations.

The standard powders used by Unex Systems (Interpon) can be used right down to sea level, provided the care and maintenance instructions are adhered to.

Limitations on Use

Unex's ‘Extreme Barriers’ Range is designed to meet the loading classifications of AS/NZS1170.1 of the New Zealand Building Code and is therefore not applicable to the requirements of the transport code. This design is not suitable for applications such as a vehicle barrier.

Typically Extreme Barriers are not suitable for top-mounting to timber.

For certain buildings, such as some industrial situations, a higher grade powder coat powder must be specified.
