Masons Ventilated Battens are roof or wall battens to form a cavity between the roofing or wall underlay and external roof or wall cladding to assist with effective moisture and ventilation control.

Location:

• In all exposure zones as defined in NZS 3604:2011.
• At least 1 m from a relevant or notional boundary.

Building:

• In conjunction with a primary structure that complies with the NZ Building Code or existing buildings where the designer and/or installer have satisfied themselves that the existing building is suitable for the intended building work.
• With timber or lightweight steel roof trusses or rafters.
• As battens to form a cavity for roof ventilation or as part of the Masons Passive Roof Ventilation System (refer to pass™ 19325).
  • The specification of the Masons Ventilated Battens for use in passive ventilated roof space designs must be guided by Masons’ design advice.
  • With synthetic or bitumen impregnated kraft paper underlay.
  • Masons Ventilated Battens should be covered within 60 days from installation.
  • With long run metal or metal tile roof cladding or under a plywood substrate with shingle cladding. A low gloss or light colour coating to AS/NZS 2728:2013 is recommended for metal cladding.
  • Masons Ventilated Battens should not be used in roofs where the battens may be exposed to hydrocarbons at elevated temperatures.
• As a cavity battens to form a cavity between the building wrap and wall cladding.
  • On buildings within the scope of E2/AS1 as part of an E2/AS1 drained and ventilated cavity system and with a building wrap that meets the requirements of Table C.2.2.1 of E2/AS1.
  • Masons Ventilated Battens should be covered within 60 days from installation.
