Interior Trades Progress Uninterrupted Thanks to Masons' Wrap

UNI PLUS is a weatherproof building wrap that allows the interior trades to begin without waiting for the cladding. "We use Masons UNI PLUS on all our builds for a couple of reasons," says Landmark Homes project manager Mike O’Kane. "It’s easier to put up than a rigid air barrier, but unlike traditional wrap, UNI PLUS lets us start working on the inside immediately, before the cladding starts."

UNI PLUS provides up to 90 days of weather and UV protection for timber framing, long enough for the Landmark team to run interior trades without waiting on the cladding programme. This sequence means they can save up to three weeks in the build schedule.

"If we get a lot of rain over the next month, that’s more lost time," says Jarrod Angove, General Manager of Landmark Homes North Shore and Rodney. "UNI PLUS means we can continue inside protected from the weather."

"They’ve had projects where entire kitchens have been installed before the exterior cladding was completed," says Masons rep Jacqueline Goldsbury, who has been working with Landmark Homes North Shore & Rodney for almost a decade. "They adopted the product early and have never looked back."

Jarrod says the wrap pays off beyond the programme, too. "Some of the products we’ve used in the past used to rattle, and your house looked like it had a sail on it. The Masons product looks tidy and stands out, so the public gets a good impression of our business."

Breathability to ensure dry, healthy homes

"The multi-ply membrane is vapour permeable," says Jacqueline. "This means moisture within the framing can escape outwards, while preventing external water from entering. New framing dries faster and long-term moisture management is in place."

"Homes these days are built so airtight that having a breathable wrap matters more than ever," says Jarrod. "It lets us wick any moisture away from the building."

Masons’ support extends well beyond product supply, with technical expertise available from specification through to construction.

"The support from the team has been awesome," says Jarrod. "They’re more than happy to come to site to chat through anything with our carpenters, and have all the technical documentation ready to go on their website. I know my consent administrator enjoys dealing with them for any producer statement material we need, and any spec material we need for our building consent applications."

A grand rural pavilion home

For this expansive show home in Riverhead, Jarrod commissioned architectural designer Trevor Wilson at ARCreate to rethink the pavilion-style home. "The design features four gabled pavilions connected by flat roof sections," says Jarrod. "Spanning 330 sqm, the home contains four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms and two living areas that can share an outdoor living area with a fireplace."

Set on a one-hectare site, the home typifies the scale and architectural detail of the rural homes Landmark Homes North Shore & Rodney build, and exactly the kind of project where UNI PLUS’s flexibility has become standard practice for the team.
