GIB® Standard
Description

The new standard in performance. Built-in high performance makes it suitable for multiple uses: maintains bracing performance of GS1 and GS2 systems and ceiling diaphragms as presented in GIB EzyBrace® Systems 2011; and can be used in GIB® Fire Rated and GIB Noise Control® Systems.

GIB® Standard plasterboard is an economical lining material available in 10mm and 13mm thicknesses.

Thicker 13mm GIB® Standard plasterboard is recommended for use on ceilings for a better quality finish, especially where wet and humid conditions mean ceiling sag can be amplified. Used in ceilings it can withstand distributed loads up to 3.0kg/m² easily supporting loads such as R5.0 insulation.

Scope of Use
  • GIB® Standard plasterboard is an economical lining material available in 10mm and 13mm thicknesses:
    • 10mm GIB® Standard plasterboard is suitable for walls
    • Thicker and more rigid 13mm GIB® Standard plasterboard is recommended for ceilings as its less prone to sagging than 10mm plasterboard in a ceiling application
  • Maintains bracing performance of GS1 and GS2 systems and ceiling diaphragms as presented in GIB EzyBrace® Systems 2011
  • Can be used in GIB® Fire Rated and GIB Noise Control® Systems
Limitations on Use

It should be noted that GIB products do not satisfy code requirements on their own, but deliever code compliant performance when used as part of a GIB performance system and installed in accordance to the specific GIB System specification outlined in the relevant GIB technical literature. These products must be handled with care as a finishing material, be installed in a dry internal environment, and remain dry in-service. These sheet materials must not be used in an unprotected external environment, or where there isriskof moisture entry or condensation.

Statement of Building Code Compliance

Where performance statements are made for GIB Standard plasterboard, the equivalent thickness GIB Wideline may be used when applied horizontally to timber framing. GIB Ultraline is also an adequate substitute for the equivalent thickness of GIB Standard plasterboard when used and installed in accordance to the relevant GIB performance system specification. Refer to the GIB Site guide for substitution conditions or contact the GIB Helpline for more info.

  • B1 Structure: Performance clauses B1.3.1, B1.3.2, B1.3.3 (a), (b), (c), (f), (h), (i), (l) and B1.3.4 (a), (b), (d).

GIB Standard plasterboard has been tested in wall assemblies subjected to the BRANZ P21 Wall Bracing Test and Evaluation Method, and contributes to providing bracing resistance to lighttimber and lightsteel framed buildings subjected to wind or seismic forces, when used and installed in accordance to system specifications outlined in the GIB EzyBrace Systems technical literature. B2 Durability: Performance clauses B2.3.1(a) (i), (ii), and (ii), and B2.3.2. Based on material properties and history of use, GIB Standard plasterboard has been assessed to have a durability of atleast 50 years when installed in a dry internal environment and when remaining dry in service.

GIB Standard plasterboard must be installed in accordance with the relevant GIB specification outlined in the design section of this document. C3 Fire affecting areas beyond the fire source: Performance clause unclear. GIB Standard plasterboard has been tested or assessed for application in wall and floor/ceiling assemblies subjected to AS 1530.4 Part 4: Fire-resistance tests for elements of construction, and contributes to providing a fire resistance rating (FRR) when used in fire-rated assemblies published in GIB Fire Rated Systems technical literature. C6 Structural stability: Performance clause unclear.

GIB Standard plasterboard is a component of specifc GIB Fire Rated "one way FRR" and "two way FRR" systems which form part of GIB details developed for simple single-storey, light timber-framed structures that require design for structural stability as a consequence of fire. Refer to the GIB Fire Rated systems manual for full construction details and conditions of use and comments on structural stability. F2 Hazardous Building Materials: Performance clause F2.3.1.

GIB Standard plasterboard does not present a health hazard. Dust resulting from sanding compounds may be a respiratory irritant, and the use of suitable respiratory protection isrecommended. There are no specific requirements in order to comply with Acceptable Solution F2/AS1, First Edition Amendment 3, 2017. G6 Airborne and impactsound: Performance clause G6.3.1. GIB Standard plasterboard contributes to providing noise attenuation and sound transmission class (STC) ratings when when used and installed in accordance to system specifications outlined in the GIB Noise Control Systems technical literature
