When designing for environments that require high levels of hygiene, it’s important to specify materials that will minimise the spread of germs. Climate makes this easy with their ClimateLine wall linings and Ecotile ceiling tiles. These surfaces are pre-finished with Climate’s durable powdercoating formula which includes a Biocote antimicrobial additive that reduces microbial growth on the surface.
How does the Biocote additive work?
Biocote uses silver ion technology to disrupt the growth and reproduction of bacteria cells, effectively reducing bacteria build-up on surfaces. The additive has been tested to reduce microbial growth by 86% in 15 minutes, 99.5% in 2 hours, and up to 99.9% in 24 hours.
Climate incorporates the biocote additive directly into their powdercoating formula during manufacturing. As the antimicrobial resistance is built into the formula, it doesn’t wear off over time, ensuring ongoing protection in between cleans, and for the lifespan of the product.
The BioCote additive also helps to reduce mould growth, odours and stains that can effect a surface over time, which are typically caused by bacteria growth. This ensures the surfaces retain their visual appeal over time, even when exposed to significant moisture and regular cleaning schedules.
Achieving greater anti-fungal performance
While all Climateline and Ecotile products incorporate the Biocote antimicrobial additive as standard, some projects may require further protection. For projects where antifungal properties are also required, Climate can adjust the levels of Biocote in their formula to achieve antifungal performance.
Independently tested for trusted peace of mind
All products using the Biocote additive are independently tested to ensure they perform as intended. Climateline and Ecotile products are tested at regular intervals, so you can have peace of mind that you are specifying products with trusted antimicrobial performance — and the test results to prove it.
Suitable for applications where hygiene is critical
The antimicrobial coating, ease of cleaning and durability of Climateline and Ecotile make them suitable for a range of applications where high hygiene is required, including:
Healthcare and aged care
Climateline and Ecotile offer a pre-finished alternative to traditional wall linings and ceiling linings that eliminates the need for finishing trades. This makes them particularly suitable for busy hospitals, medical centres and aged care facilities as they can minimise downtime and disruption, all while providing long-term bacterial resistance.
Food and beverage areas
Climateline and Ecotile are a smart low maintenance solution for restaurants and cafes, commercial kitchens and food preparation areas. They have been tested to meet ANZ standards for food and beverage facilities, including applications that require NZBC G3.3.2 Food Preparation & Prevention of Contamination.
Education and childcare
The antimicrobial coating is also beneficial for helping to keep germs at bay in educational environments such as schools and early childcare centres. The wall linings can be wiped down with a damp cloth, making day to day maintenance straightforward, and custom colours can be specified for projects where a more vibrant look is desired.
History of use in high-hygiene spaces
Ecotile ceiling tiles are regularly specified in a range of applications where high hygiene is required including supermarkets, food preparation areas, and more recently Night & Day convenience stores.
Climateline has been specified in healthcare and early childhood environments for over 15 years. One recent project is Elim Church in Coromandel, where the prefinished wall linings saved time on site while providing durability, low maintenance and long-term antimicrobial performance in the auditorium, office, kitchen and bathrooms.
