Recon Veneer Adds Extra Layer of Detail to Award-Winning Bathroom

Designed by Davinia Sutton, this stunning bathroom was awarded the Supreme Bathroom Design Award at the 2016 NKBA awards.

In designing the bathroom, Sutton looked at creating a sense of serenity, privacy and space for the homeowners. "The clients wanted a room that would act as a retreat and respite from the day's stresses," she explains. "They also wanted something bespoke and custom-made to suit their needs."

A modern, relaxing palette was chosen for the space, with white and charcoal tiling and sand coloured flooring providing a gentle play on texture and form. Bestwood Recon Veneer in Dusty Mule Crown Cut was selected for the cabinetry, adding another layer to the design. "We used the veneer to give it a sense of relaxation and complement the chosen palette," says Sutton. "It creates a lovely contrast to the white and grey behind and perpendicular, and offsets the custom-made bench vanity top and bowls formed out of engineered stone."

The high level of detail in the veneer was another feature which drew Sutton to specify the product. "It's really high-quality veneer and a very natural looking product," she says. As the veneer is more consistent than natural timber, it can also be mitred neatly, which made it ideal for providing added detail for the two asymmetrical cabinets. "The joiners did well in matching the grain to make it look contemporary and slick," says Sutton.

Other key features of the bathroom include the freestanding bath and a luxurious walk-in twin shower system. Careful placement of these elements within the space enables the homeowners to comfortably share the bathroom without compromising on privacy or space.

The careful positioning of elements and use of natural tones and textures has resulted in a lovely sense of peacefulness, serenity and luxury for the room — ticking all the clients' boxes. "It hits the brief and has that wow factor when you walk in," says Sutton. "It's quite stunning. Something not expected."

"I'm very thrilled with the result," she says. "It's been judged well by my peers and the clients love it."
